Redo of Healer aired on AT-X for one season and 12 episodes, from January 13 to March 31, 2021, and it made no attempt to be liked. The anime adaptation of Rui Tsukiyo’s light novel series centers on Keyaru, a healing magician abused physically, mentally and sexually by the allies he served, who finds the true reach of his power and travels four years into the past to take revenge. That is the engine, and the show never apologizes for it.

Keyaru Rewinds Four Years
Keyaru carries the hero’s insignia, granted at his coming-of-age. He wanted to save the world from demons. Instead he spent four years under the people who were supposed to fight beside him, and the series uses that stretch to frame the Jioral Kingdom as corrupted from the top down. During the battle with the demon lord Eve, Keyaru holds himself together long enough to see what his healing magic actually is.
He takes the Philosopher’s Stone instead of handing it to Flare as instructed, and uses it to go back four years with his memories intact. The mechanic carries the whole story: healing, pushed past its ordinary limits, is the strongest class in the world. Keyaru believes that before he can prove it, and the show agrees with him.
Flare Becomes Freia
Flare Arlgrande Jioral is the Magic Hero and first princess of Jioral, and the main source of Keyaru’s suffering. She drugs him so he will follow her commands, trains him to be useful, and regards healing magicians as the lowest class in the magic world until he proves otherwise. She does not trust him with the Philosopher’s Stone. That distrust is the hinge the series turns on.
In the new timeline, Keyaru finds Flare vulnerable. He tortures and rapes her, takes her powers, and erases and alters her memories and appearance. She becomes Freia, his companion and lover. The show does not soften this or present it as a clean win. It is where Redo of Healer asks whether a victim can become the thing that made him, and it refuses to answer comfortably.
Voices Behind Keyaru and Flare
Yuya Hozumi voices Keyaru and his renamed self, Keyarga. Yoko Hikasa voices Keara. Ayano Shibuya voices Flare and Freia, a dual role that carries the heaviest turn in the series. Shizuka Ishigami is Setsuna, Natsuki Aikawa is Kureha, Natsumi Takamori is Eve, Minami Tsuda is Norn, Mami Fujita is Blade, Tetsu Inada is Brett, and Asuka Nishi is Anna.
The voice work is the steadiest part of the production. Hozumi has to hold two versions of one man, the broken healer and the calculating avenger, and keeps them recognizably the same person. Shibuya’s shift from Flare to Freia is the cruelest piece of casting here, because one voice has to sell both the abuser and the rewritten woman.
TNK and the Light Novel
TNK produced the anime. The source is Tsukiyo’s light novel series, illustrated by Shiokonbu, which began serialization online in December 2016 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Kadokawa Shoten acquired it and has published it since July 2017 under the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation with art by Sōken Haga has run on Kadokawa’s Young Ace Up site since October 2017. In Japan the series is known short as KaiYari.
The adaptation had a lot to compress, and it shows. Twelve episodes is a tight fit for a story that wants to establish four years of abuse, a time rewind and a full cast of targets. The show moves fast, sometimes too fast, and viewers who want the fuller version of Keyaru’s planning will find more of it in the novels and the manga.

Why the Revenge Lands
Redo of Healer is not a power fantasy that happens to be dark. It is a story about a man denied everything, handed one tool, and given a second run at the people who broke him. The Philosopher’s Stone is not a reward. It is a second chance with a price attached, and the price is that Keyaru has to become someone capable of using it.
The show’s clearest strength is that it commits. It does not redeem Flare, and it does not pretend Freia is a fresh person with no history. The memory erasure is the point: Keyaru wins by turning his abuser into his partner, and the series knows that is not justice. It leaves the discomfort sitting there rather than resolving it.
Its clearest weakness is that the revenge plot runs on shock more than structure. Once the rewind happens, the targets line up and the show works through them. The middle stretch sags because the outcome is rarely in doubt. Keyaru is the strongest class in the world, and the series says so early.
Redo of Healer earns its 8.3/10 on the strength of its premise and its refusal to look away. It is a revenge story with a real idea underneath, that healing pushed far enough is the most dangerous power in the world, and it builds a protagonist who is a villain by his own choices rather than by accident. It is not for most viewers, and the content is extreme, but judged as what it is, it does the job with more conviction than most series in the genre.
