Marvel’s Wolverine closes with two post-credits scenes, and the second one asks players to earn it. The first scene drops for everyone after the credits roll, while the second requires a bronze rank on every Nightmare Door trial before it shows up. Both point toward a sequel, but one is far more explicit about it.
Sabretooth and the Helix Engine
The first scene features Sabretooth digging up another Helix Engine, the device that activates dormant mutants. This one is still intact, unlike the one rebuilt and used throughout the game. Sabretooth follows the voice of Apocalypse, who has been stuck in his head since Sabretooth used a Helix Engine himself.
Apocalypse, or En Sabah Nur, is a longtime villain in the X-Men series. Born in Egypt centuries before the heroes in Wolverine, he is believed to be one of the world’s first mutants. His powers include changing his molecular structure, superhuman strength, and incredible psychic abilities.
He is also known as one of the most powerful villains in all of Marvel, and he commands four horsemen. Those horsemen represent the end of days, with each standing for one of Famine, Death, War, and Pestilence. The roster has changed across different stories, with one famous set including Storm, Psylocke, Archangel, and Magneto.
Sabretooth looks like he fills the role in Marvel’s Wolverine timeline. The other three horsemen are unknown at this time. Anyone in the Marvel universe could fit, so Insomniac has plenty of room to choose.
Logan’s Long History With Jean
The second scene takes players back 75 years before the game’s main story. It shows Logan walking through the farm where he and Jean once lived. Jean tells the full story of how she and Logan met hundreds of years ago and first burned Death from his psyche.
Since then, she has died and been reborn multiple times like a phoenix. The two have always found each other again across their many lives. The flashback ends with the two joining each other in the cabin, one of the few happy memories they have left from their shared history.
Logan’s memory has been wiped at the end of Wolverine. He leaves Jean and her friends to find himself and hopefully restore at least some part of who he once was.
What the Scenes Hint At
The scenes do more than hint at a sequel. They point at specific characters and threads that could carry the story forward.
| Scene | Who Is Seen | What It Teases |
|---|---|---|
| First scene | Sabretooth | Sabretooth as one of Apocalypse’s Horsemen |
| Second scene | Younger Logan and Jean | Their shared history and the phoenix cycle |
The first scene confirms Sabretooth’s place among Apocalypse’s followers. The second scene reveals a younger Logan and Jean decades before the game’s main story. Together, they establish a timeline that could support a sequel.
The Sequel Question
Whether a sequel happens depends on how well Wolverine performs. Insomniac has already shown it can build a rich X-Men story around Logan. The post-credits scenes give fans something to watch for.
The scenes are not vague promises. They point directly at characters and plot threads that deserve more time. Sabretooth’s role as a Horseman is now established. Logan’s search for himself after his memory is wiped is open-ended.
The scenes are a tease, but they are a specific one. They give players something concrete to hold onto until the next game arrives.
