Hargitay was present at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles for the live telecast, while Swift appeared on camera through a pre-taped segment that starred her alongside Hargitay as Olivia Benson and the rest of her Law & Order: Special Victims Unit co-stars. The cameo came during that pre-recorded portion of the show. The skit began with Hargitay speaking the lines marked by “The mayor’s office is breathing down my neck, demanding an answer to the big question: Will Taylor Swift be at the Emmys?”, which were delivered before Swift’s surprise appearance.
Hidden inside the tape, Swift had already been waiting, and the answer came at once.
Sarah Michelle Gellar Shades Hulu’s Buffy Cancellation
Matthew Rhys took home the award for lead actor in a limited or anthology series or movie, with Gellar and David Boreanaz doing the honors. During their presentation, they marked the show’s 30th anniversary, each taking a moment to recognize it.
The opening came from Boreanaz himself, who said “Hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Buffy the Vampire Slayer premiered.”. He followed that with a further remark, saying “I mean, when you think about it, it’s kind of crazy, right? A teenage girl chosen by fate to fight vampires and demons, the forces of darkness, and then she falls in love with a vampire with a soul, carrying around a couple 100 years of regret.”.

Marcello Hernández Shoots His Shot
Marcello Hernández, who appears on Saturday Night Live, took his turn presenting the prize for best directing in a comedy series, which went to Hiro Murai for Widow’s Bay, to ask some major stars to join him for supper. He singled out Harrison Ford by name, pointing out that Ford was among those nominated for best supporting actor in a comedy series.
“It’s an honor for me to be here. It’s my first time at the Emmys, and I get to present, so I just wanna take this opportunity to say hi to a few people I might not be able to say hi to later. I don’t know what parties I’ve been invited to and I don’t know what parties you have been invited to, so just very quickly I would like to say hello to Harrison Ford.” was what Hernández said.
Matthew Rhys Makes Emmy History
The lead acting Emmy has now been claimed across all three genres by Rhys, who took home best actor in a comedy series for Widow’s Bay. That makes him the first performer in history to achieve that feat. His earlier win came on the drama side back in 2018, when he received the award for The Americans.
He was the first person to take home two lead-acting trophies on the same evening.
In his acceptance speech, Rhys echoed comedy supporting actor winner Stephen Root’s praise for showrunner Katie Dippold, specifically her “depraved and twisted mind.”
Noah Kahan’s Emotional Tribute
Kahan performed a rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge over Troubled Water” during the in memoriam segment. The segment followed a tribute to the late Catherine O’Hara, with Macaulay Culkin, Annie Murphy and Dan Levy introducing it.
Kahan is currently in the midst of a record-breaking year. The 29-year-old earned his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last month. His album The Great Divide had the third-biggest week for an album this year when it was released.
