Miyuki Shirogane and Kaguya Shinomiya
The setup is exact. Miyuki Shirogane holds the highest grades in the country and leads the Shuchiin Academy student council. Kaguya Shinomiya, wealthy and beautiful, sits beside him as vice president. Their classmates already treat them as the perfect couple. They are not in any relationship at all.
That gap is the whole engine. Both are geniuses. Both want the other to confess first. Neither will.
A-1 Pictures and Aka Akasaka
A-1 Pictures produced the anime, based on Aka Akasaka’s manga. The title translates literally as “Lady Kaguya Wants to Make Him Confess: The Geniuses’ War of Hearts and Minds,” which tells you the premise and the joke in one line.
It ran three seasons and 37 episodes, from January 12, 2019 to June 25, 2022. Yutaka Aoyama voices the narrator, and the narration does real work here — it lands the punchlines the characters are too proud to speak.
Makoto Furukawa and Aoi Koga
Makoto Furukawa voices Shirogane. Aoi Koga voices Kaguya. Konomi Kohara plays Chika Fujiwara, Ryota Suzuki plays Yuu Ishigami, and Miyu Tomita plays Miko Iino. Yumiri Hanamori rounds out the core as Ai Hayasaka.
The supporting cast matters more than the premise suggests. Chika, Ishigami and Iino each carry their own arcs and their own deadpan timing, which keeps the show from running the same gag into the ground.

The First Kiss That Never Ends
The story did not stop at the third season. A film, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – The First Kiss That Never Ends, picks up after season three and released in 2022. A second film, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – The Final Chapter, has been announced as the conclusion.
That is a lot of runway for a premise built on two people refusing to talk.
37 Episodes of Geniuses
Kaguya-sama: Love Is War earns its 8.5/10. The comedy is sharp, the cast is deep, and the central standoff stays funny across 37 episodes because the show keeps widening who gets to play the fool.
The weakest stretch is the middle, where the will-they-won’t-they loop can feel like a holding pattern. The strongest is everything around Ishigami and Iino, who get the emotional range the leads are too stubborn to reach.
It is a comedy about the smartest people in the room being the last to figure out the obvious. That is a durable joke, and this series tells it well.
