Ruby Bell and the Secret at Maxton Hall
The setup is a familiar one, and the show knows it. Ruby Bell, a scholarship student, unwittingly witnesses an explosive secret at the Maxton Hall private school. James Beaufort, the arrogant millionaire heir, is determined to silence her.
What follows is the engine of the whole series: a passionate exchange of words between two people who should have nothing to do with each other. The spark is not the secret. The spark is the arguing.
Harriet Herbig-Matten plays Ruby. Damian Hardung plays James. The two carry the show, and the casting is the reason it works.
A German Novel, a Global Chart
The series is based on the 2018 novel Save Me by Mona Kasten. That is a German-language source, adapted for a German-language production, and it still traveled.

The Last Season Problem
Here is where the show sits now. In June 2025, Prime Video renewed it for a third and final season. That final season is slated to premiere on December 9, 2026.
The renewal as a final season is the right call. The story has a natural end. Stretching it past that end would have cost the show the thing that made it work.

Maxton Hall – The World Between Us is a 7.0 out of 10. It is a well-cast, well-paced drama that understands exactly what it is and does not waste episodes pretending to be something bigger.
The secret is the weakest part. Ruby and James are the strongest. The show figured that out early and built around it.
If you want a boarding-school romance with a real spark between its leads, this is the one that 120 regions already found. If you want something that reinvents the genre, look elsewhere. This one just does the genre well.
