Formula 1 has announced its 2027 calendar and confirmed an increase in the number of Sprint weekends from six to 10, with the season starting in Bahrain. For a fourth straight year, there are 24 rounds scheduled, including Portugal’s Portimao and Turkey’s Istanbul Park returning to the championship.
A Spanish race takes the place of a Dutch one on the calendar, with the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya joining a rotational arrangement with Spa-Francorchamps. From 2028, the Spanish event will run in even numbered years, and the Belgian Grand Prix will run in odd numbered years from 2027.
The Bahrain Grand Prix begins with a four-day pre-season test on February 24-27, ahead of the season-opener on March 12-14, which runs as a Sprint weekend. A week after that, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix takes place.
In early April, Australia returns to the third round of the season and hosts a Sprint, followed by Japan hosting a Sprint in the next race before China closes out a triple-header. Miami holds onto its place in the first weekend of May, while Canada and Monaco run Sprint rounds for the first time.
F1 president Stefano Domenicali praised the return of Portugal and Turkey and called the expanded Sprint programme “even more intensity, drama, and the wheel-to-wheel action that make our sport so special.” He thanked fans for driving everything the series does.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who serves as president of the FIA, said that the calendar “is a strong reflection of the global appeal and continued growth of our sport” and combines “tradition, innovation, and fan engagement.”
The calendar runs through a triple-header in Azerbaijan, Turkey and Singapore, followed by the usual Americas triple-header in Austin, Mexico and Brazil, which is a Sprint weekend. Las Vegas hosts the only Saturday race of 2027, although it will be Sunday morning in the UK. Qatar and Abu Dhabi close the season with two Sprint weekends on December 10-12.

The conflict in the Middle East is causing uncertainty about how the current season will conclude, and that has forced F1 to put off announcing its calendar for next year. Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain on the schedule for later this year as things stand now.
Bahrain’s Season-Opener
Bahrain will host the 2027 season-opener on March 12-14, and it will be a Sprint weekend. A four-day pre-season test runs February 24-27.
Zandvoort Drops Off
For 2027, the race at Zandvoort is no longer on the calendar.
Barcelona’s New Rotation
A swap agreement puts the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in rotation with Spa-Francorchamps. The Spanish race will take place in even years starting from 2028, while the Belgian Grand Prix will run in odd years beginning with 2027.
Australia Reverts
In early April, Australia returns to the third round of the season, and the event is a Sprint. The following race takes place in Japan and likewise hosts a Sprint. China closes out the trio of back-to-back events.
Miami and the New Sprints
The first weekend of May still belongs to Miami. Canada and Monaco are hosting their first-ever Sprint weekends, and F1 reports that fans are “set to enjoy two thrilling qualifying sessions” around the streets of Monte Carlo.
Portugal and Turkey Return
Portugal’s Portimao and Turkey’s Istanbul Park are back on the calendar. Both races slot into mid-June, with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone following as a Sprint weekend.
The Summer Stretch
The F1 season heads into the summer break with two weekends in Belgium and Hungary held back to back. The series returns from the break with a sprint round at Monza in early September, which comes five weeks after the last race, a week longer than the usual pause. The Spanish Grand Prix follows in Madrid a week after that.
The Triple-Headers
Singapore, Azerbaijan and Turkey come first in a trio of races before the three usual Americas events in Austin, Mexico and Brazil, which make up a Sprint weekend. Las Vegas holds the single Saturday race of 2027, though it falls on a Sunday morning for viewers in the UK.
Qatar and Abu Dhabi close the season with two Sprint weekends on December 10-12.
The Conflict Delay
The end of the current season is uncertain because of the conflict in the Middle East, and that’s why F1 put off announcing its schedule for next year. Qatar and Abu Dhabi remain on the calendar at this point, set to take place later this year.
The full 2027 calendar is now set, and the only remaining question is whether the final races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi actually run as planned. Until then, fans can follow the spectacle of 10 Sprint weekends spread across the globe.
