Almost ten years later, “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga,” a brand new spinoff Snowfall series, is airing on FX and Hulu. It takes place in 1990s Los Angeles in the aftermath of the crack cocaine epidemic, as two returning fan favorite characters fight to reinvent themselves.
The ascent of West Coast rap has been dubbed the “the new Gold Rush,” and Wanda Bell hopes to capitalize on it, moving from her role in the dope game into the rap game.
Wanda’s New Wave
Gail Bean returns as Wanda, now an aspiring musician.
“Wanda is this visionary and wants to create a future for herself that is a complete 180 of her past,” says Bean. “We’re cheering for her. We’re always cheering for the underdog.”
The story follows Wanda’s move from the dope game into the rap game, as she pursues a fresh form of success within a city being remade by the growing influence of West Coast rap.
Leon’s Reckoning
Leon Simmons, who used to live on the street, has left that life behind and is now back as Isaiah John, running a free legal clinic for the people around him.
John is the name given to him, according to “Leon is in a space where he’s trying to right a lot of his wrongs,”.
He calls this spinoff series a “fun ride.”
“We have a lot of a lot of good arcs that are brewing up that you’re going to get to follow over the the next eight episodes,” he says.
The change in Leon’s fortunes is best seen in his move from the streets to legal work. The clinic now offers him a means to give back to the community he used to travel through.
Loyalty and Survival
Bean and John describe it as a tale of faithfulness and endurance, along with drive and reunion.
“There is explosion and love, tears, anger and suspense,” says John.
“And family,” adds Bean. “It is a hero’s journey.”
“We’re about to bless your TV screens with some great storytelling, honestly,” says John. “It’s a gift from us to to the world.”
When to Watch
FX broadcasts “The Drop: A Snowfall Saga”, and Hulu also streams it. The Walt Disney Company owns this ABC station.
John hinted that the next eight episodes will be where the storylines he mentioned come to fruition.

The pull for fans of the original series comes from Wanda and Leon’s return, but the real issue is whether they can actually put their pasts behind them.
