Hideo Kojima has confirmed Bill Skarsgård is the lead actor in Physint, the action espionage game he is building for Xbox. The reveal came during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, where Kojima also gave a production update on OD, his mysterious horror game.
The announcement follows last week’s news that Sony had stepped away from Physint, which was previously a PlayStation-exclusive project. Xbox has now taken over publishing duties for the game.
Kojima’s Tokyo Stage
Kojima opened his presentation by focusing on his partnership with Xbox. “Today, I’d like to focus on [Kojima Productions’] partnership with Xbox and share with players around the world a glimpse of what’s ahead,” he said.
He also confirmed he spent time in Redmond, Washington earlier this year, meeting with Xbox boss Asha Sharma. “There, we discussed the future of games and digital entertainment and shared a deep understanding of the goals we believe we should achieve together,” Kojima explained.
OD-Knock’s Progress
OD, which Kojima calls OD-Knock, is described as a horror game unlike anything we have seen before. He insists plenty of people will hate it.
Development is proceeding on schedule, but it has faced some delays. Performance capture and ADR recording had to be paused due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike. Kojima confirmed the production is back on track.
Sophiua Lillis, Hunter Schafer and the team have delivered intense and outstanding performances, according to Kojima. He cannot wait for us all to see them.
OD is designed to test the thresholds of fear, according to Kojima. More information will be shared down the line.
Physint’s New Lead
The big news for Physint is the casting of Bill Skarsgård. He is best known for playing Pennywise in It, and he will now take the lead role in Kojima’s game.
Skarsgård joins previously confirmed actors Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Kojima also shared new key art for the game, showing a costume and character design that appears to come from a photo he took at a recent shoot.
A Long Road Ahead
Physint is still many years from completion. In 2025, Kojima noted the game wouldn’t be out for another “five or six” years.
During Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary livestream, he called Physint “just the start.” That could hint at franchise potential, but it isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.
If Xbox is banking on Physint, it will almost certainly be a marquee game for the as-yet-unrevealed Xbox Project Helix.
The Sony Split
The split with Sony came last week, when it was reported that Sony’s decision to step away was the result of concerns over “budget, potential profitability and exclusivity.”
What We Know Now
Here is what we know about the two games:
- OD-Knock: A horror game from Kojima, with performances from Sophiua Lillis and Hunter Schafer. Development is on schedule.
- Physint: An action espionage game with Bill Skarsgård as lead, plus Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Xbox is now publishing.
Key Art and the Wait
The key art for Physint shows a costume and character design from a photo Kojima took at a recent shoot. No further details were given during the presentation.
Physint is still years away. For now, fans have key art and a promise of more news soon. The games are coming, and the wait begins.
