Ashley and David Eckstein have released two books on the same day, and both of them are bestsellers. The husband-and-wife team published “Lucky 22” and “Just Enough” simultaneously, and now they are talking about how their love story ended up inspiring fiction.
The Love Story Behind Both Books
David’s memoir, “Just Enough,” is nonfiction. Ashley’s novel, “Lucky 22,” is fiction inspired by their true love story — but she told On The Red Carpet that it is “about 90% true.” The couple went to their publisher, Blue Box Press, and asked for “his and hers” editions to release on the same day.
They described the experience as “surreal.”
How Ashley Became Ahsoka Tano
Ashley’s career took off in 2006, the same year David won the World Series. She was cast as Ahsoka Tano, the character she now voices, and she writes about the experience in “Lucky 22.”
“David’s is nonfiction, it’s his memoir. ‘Lucky 22’ is inspired by our true love story, but it’s about 90% true,” she explained.
The story of how she got the role is unusual. Dave Filoni, the creator of the character, did not know what he wanted Ahsoka to sound like when she was first created. Ashley revealed that the original plan was for Ahsoka to have an Icelandic accent.
“Dave Filoni didn’t know what he wanted for Ahsoka when they first created her. In fact, they originally wanted Ahsoka to have an Icelandic accent,” she said.
She also shared that she had to keep the casting secret from people close to her.
What David’s Book Is About
David’s memoir focuses on overcoming obstacles. He said the book is aimed at anyone who feels they are not the biggest, fastest, or strongest in what they do.
“If you ever felt like you’re not the biggest, the fastest, the strongest, or the most talented in whatever you’re doing, at the end of the day, you can be just enough,” he said.
The book takes readers through all the obstacles he had to overcome to achieve his dreams, and he hopes it will give others inspiration to achieve their own.

Both books reached the bestsellers list after release. The couple described finding out as a dream come true.
The books are available now where books are sold. The “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” movie and series are streaming on Disney+.
The couple’s story has a lot of “Star Wars” in it. Ashley writes about the year she won the World Series and became Ahsoka Tano in the same book.
