Last month, Perez Hilton attempted suicide during a live broadcast on TikTok, where he cut himself with a knife while viewers watched. His sister, Barbara Lavandeira, discovered him bleeding and unconscious in the bathroom and called 911. The children were safe, and Hilton is now receiving care at a residential treatment program for his mental health.

Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has stepped in to care for his three kids full-time. A friend of Hilton’s, theater producer Tom D’Angora, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her with the cost.

D’Angora’s GoFundMe Campaign

The statement published on Perez Hilton’s website came from his family and said that Mario, Mia, and Mayte were “together, safe, and doing well in the care of their grandmother, who has stepped in to care for them full-time during this unexpected chapter.”.

Three children belong to D’Angora set up the GoFundMe profile on September 17, urging everyone to contribute whatever they can to help Teresita support Hilton’.

The text states that the page reads “Like any grandmother who suddenly finds herself responsible for raising three growing children, she’s also taken on significant and unexpected expenses,”.

“She’s put much of her own life on hold to make sure the kids can continue going to school, participating in their normal activities, and having as much consistency as possible during an incredibly difficult time.”

The GoFundMe profile makes clear that the amount raised so far is “All funds raised will benefit Perez’s mother and children only and help cover the additional costs of caring for three kids full-time. None of the money will be used for Perez personally,”.

About $3,700 of the campaign’s $25,000 goal has been reached after just 8 hours.

Netizens Refuse to Take Pity

While Perez Hilton’s friends’ plea has not entirely fallen on deaf ears, most have refused to show any sympathy for the blogger, accusing him of “farming others’ trauma” to build a successful career around celebrity gossip and ridicule for over two decades.

“You’re not getting my money. Nor support. You exploit people trying to make a living with their talents,” one said. Another wrote, “He made his money destroying others. Now he has the nerve to ask people to help him?”

Once news of the terrible August 4 incident became known, there was much rejoicing over Hilton’s state, and some even held it up as “karma” for all the times he had gone after public figures such as Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.

His family’s statement called out such negative comments, urging everyone to keep in mind that “celebrating” someone’s attempt to take their life “crosses a line.”

“Whatever anyone may think of ‘Perez Hilton,’ his past, or things he has said over the years, there’s a real human being behind the name,” it read. “Three children came frighteningly close to losing their father forever. There is nothing funny or entertaining about that.”

After actor Heath Ledger died from substance intoxication in 2008, many netizens responded by pointing out that Hilton had sold custom T-shirts on his website printed with the phrase, “Why couldn’t it be Britney?”.

Financial Struggles Predate the Livestream

The Las Vegas house once owned by Perez Hilton is now being sold at a reduced price, with the marker $350,000 representing the amount by which he has cut the asking figure. The blogger was already experiencing financial difficulties before this adjustment.

A number of reports put Perez Hilton’s net worth at around $20 million, yet he was said to be facing money problems long before the graphic livestream incident, which reportedly left him permanently disfigured.

According to a source speaking to the Daily Mail, some of the financial difficulties stem from his health struggles since March 2026, which began with an ulcer and progressed to an organ perforation after he took flu medicine without food.

He nearly lost his life after developing sepsis, which kept him in the hospital for three weeks. The illness required abdominal surgery, the removal of fluid from around his lungs, and another operation to treat a blood clot.

A number of his reality show pitches were turned down by production studios at roughly the same point in time.

After his mounting medical bills grew too heavy to bear, he relocated from Las Vegas to Miami, where he also began looking for a psychiatrist to address his deteriorating mental health.

The latest report put his six-bedroom Las Vegas house on the market at $4.25 million, though he has since been forced to cut the asking price by $350,000, bringing it down to $3.9 million.
