Scalpers are already listing the sold-out Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 on eBay for as much as $985, nearly double its $520 retail price. Pre-orders went live yesterday at Best Buy, Walmart, and Target, and all three retailers sold out immediately.
The special edition marks the first Switch 2 variant Nintendo has produced since the system launched in 2025. Nintendo has been notably quiet about special editions during the console’s first year, making this announcement a surprise.
What’s In The Box
The decorated console includes:
- A black-and-gold dock
- Black-and-gold triangle motifs on the back of the device
- Two green-and-gold Joy-Cons
- A matching case with the gold Triforce logo
- A special edition Pro controller in black, gold, and green
The set is clearly desirable for diehard Zelda fans. One critic noted the dock, lacking any green detail, unfortunately resembles something from the Trump White House.
The Scalper Problem
GamesRadar spotted the eBay listings, which range from $700 to $985. Some sellers are pairing the console with the forthcoming Ocarina of Time remake, a combination Nintendo itself chose not to offer.
Nintendo is not bundling the game with the console. The Zelda Switch 2 launches October 29, a week before the updated classic arrives on November 6.
No one should pay these grotesque prices, and they will only become more grotesque as people do.
The machine inside the special edition runs exactly the same as a standard Switch 2. The extra cost buys drawings, not performance.
Nintendo has not opened pre-orders for the special edition on its own storefronts yet. The company did take steps to let customers buy the original Switch 2 directly from its sites at launch in 2025, so there may be similar plans for this edition.
For now, the official channels are silent, and the third-party market is moving fast. The green-and-gold Joy-Cons are undeniably beautiful, but the console itself is identical under the shell, and the game fans most want to play with it is not included. Waiting for a restock is the sensible move.
