Danganronpa 2 Remake’s PC Specs Call For An RTX 4070 And 32GB Of RAM

A remake of a PSP horror visual novel demands a top-tier PC rig. Players ask: what's hidden inside this absurd box?

A classroom of cartoon students sits frozen on a glowing computer screen, surrounded by absurdly powerful hardware.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair was a PlayStation Portable game in 2012, and it was a hit. The second entry in the horror visual novel series landed in North America two years later on PS Vita. Now, over a decade later, it is getting a remake called Danganronpa 2×2 — and the PC recommended specs are absurd.

Developer and publisher Spike Chunsoft announced the remake in recent years. It was originally set to arrive this fall, but that plan fell apart. The game has been delayed until January 14, 2027. In the meantime, Spike Chunsoft released the PC specs early, and they have caused mass confusion among fans.

What The Specs Actually Call For

The minimum specs only require 8GB of RAM. That is a reasonable floor for a modern PC. But the recommended specs are where things get ridiculous. Spike Chunsoft recommends an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 and 32GB of RAM.

Players have responded with disbelief. One joke circulated, with a fan saying that Nagito — a character from the original game — had to “get off the screen and give me a kiss on the mouth for all this.” The joke is that the hardware requirement is so high that the game should offer a reward for enduring it.

Another player posted a screenshot of the original PS Vita footage alongside a caption reading: “This looks like it could run on the OG PS Vita at 60fps.”

Why The Specs Don’t Match The Game

The footage we have seen so far of the remake suggests nothing that would reasonably require that much RAM. The game is mostly cutout characters moving overtop of static backgrounds as dialogue flashes across the screen. There is no open world, no physics engine, no complex animations.

Either Danganronpa 2×2 has an entire second game hiding somewhere inside, or it might be the worst optimized visual novel ever shipped. Neither explanation feels likely. The game is a talking-head adventure, not a technical showcase.

The Timing Is Not Helpful

RAM prices are rising sharply. When Danganronpa 2×2 was first announced, you could get 32GB of DDR5-5600 memory for under $250. It will now cost you closer to $1,250.

That is a massive swing. The irony is not lost on anyone.

There is still room for Spike Chunsoft to slash the RAM requirements in half. That has happened before. Earlier this year, TT Games cut the RAM requirements in half for Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. The game was originally listed as recommended 32GB, but the spec was later reduced prior to launch.

What A Reduced Spec Might Look Like

If Spike Chunsoft follows TT Games’ path, the new recommendation would drop to 16GB. That is still a lot for a game where you are not exploring an open-world full of objects that can break into a bunch of little Lego pieces.

The remake’s biggest mystery might turn out not be who dies but why it is such a beefy resource hog on PC. The game does not need that much power. It is a talking-head adventure with static backgrounds.

What Players Are Saying

The response online has been gleeful. Players are pointing to the absurdity of the specs and laughing at the comparison between the original PS Vita footage and the modern PC requirements.

One player posted a tweet with the RTX 4070 recommendation followed by “bruh… you can count the polygons on two hands, wtf are they smoking 😂”

The joke is that the game is so simple that the hardware requirement is laughable. A visual novel with cutout characters should not need a mid-range graphics card and 32GB of RAM.

The Bottom Line

Danganronpa 2×2 is a remake of a PSP game from 2012. The original was a talking-head adventure with static backgrounds. The remake should not need an RTX 4070 and 32GB of RAM.

The specs are absurd. They are the kind of joke that players share with each other. The game is a simple visual novel, and the hardware requirement is a punchline.

The delay until January 14, 2027 gives Spike Chunsoft time to rethink the PC requirements. Until then, the joke is on everyone who reads the recommended specs.
