Prime Video’s Reacher franchise has finally met its match — and it is a spinoff. Neagley, starring Maria Sten as the private investigator Frances Neagley, has unseated the original series to become the streamer’s No. 1 show over the past few weeks. The eight-episode series dropped all at once, and audiences in the U.S., U.K., and throughout Europe have embraced it.

Amazon MGM’s push to grow its action franchise is paying off, with Reacher season 4 having just wrapped up. The spinoff, Neagley, is now the top show on Prime Video, while the main series sits at No. 2.

How Neagley Took Over

Neagley premiered on Prime Video in mid-August, running alongside the ongoing fourth season of Reacher. But after the TV series’ season finale on Sept. 16, the spinoff stepped into the spotlight. All eight episodes dropped at once, a gambit that has paid off for Amazon; Neagley is now the streamer’s No. 1 show over the past few weeks.

Sten was a regular presence across the first three seasons of Reacher. In her own series, she takes charge of her own story, and the plot centers on a friend from her past who died in what appears to be an accident. That death sets her on a course toward justice, which leads her into a perilous confrontation with a menacing evil. Before her solo run, Frances Neagley worked under Jack Reacher in the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit, where she investigated crimes in Chicago. She remains determined to see the truth come to light, even as the danger grows around her.

The series does not follow a direct path from Lee Child’s novels, unlike Reacher. Rather, it takes the character created by Child and builds her world anew, without staying tied to the source material.

The Cast Behind the Spinoff

Greyston Holt, Matthew Del Negro, Adeline Rudolph, Damon Herriman, and Joel Keller round out the cast alongside Neagley. Their characters help shape her Chicago-based investigations and the perilous road she travels.

Sten’s performance anchors the show. Peter Friedlander, head of global television for Amazon MGM Studios, praised her work in an announcement confirming a second season. “Audiences around the world have embraced Frances Neagley as a force all her own,” he said. “Maria Sten delivers a commanding, layered performance that drives every episode, and Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton have built a world that is both thrilling and compelling. We are excited to continue this story and explore what’s next for Neagley with our partners at Paramount Television Studios.”

A Second Season Is Already Ordered

Amazon MGM has now confirmed that a second season of Neagley, the Maria Sten-led series, is indeed coming, two weeks after the show’s debut on Prime Video. The confirmation arrived alongside word that Reacher season 4 had wrapped up.

Friedlander’s statement made clear the studio’s confidence in the property. The second season will continue exploring what happens next for Neagley, with Paramount Television Studios joining as partners.

Amazon MGM did not announce a release window for Neagley season 2. Based on the first season’s production timeline, Reacher fans likely won’t get it until 2028. That timing lines up with Reacher season 5, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2027.

What Comes Next

The path forward for the franchise has already been mapped out. Fans of the action series will get a taste of what comes next with Neagley season 2, which serves as a bridge to Reacher season 6.

Amazon MGM’s decision to commission a second season of Neagley before the first has ended demonstrates that the studio considers the standalone series a worthwhile long-term addition to its slate. Ordering a second season early commits the studio to the character beyond the initial spinoff experiment.

The coming years will be busy for anyone watching, with several major releases on the horizon. The rough sequence of what follows runs like this:

  1. Reacher season 5 — expected in 2027
  2. Neagley season 2 — likely 2028
  3. Reacher season 6 — later

Because of the schedule, Neagley will end up falling between the two big seasons of the main series.

The Big Picture

Amazon MGM took a risk with Neagley, opting to grow the world of the Jack Reacher franchise rather than stick to its proven formula. Rather than doubling down on the show’s established approach, the studio turned to a supporting character from within that universe. That decision has worked out well, as Neagley has already surpassed the numbers of the very show that created it.

Prime Video’s streaming charts have been ruled by the franchise for four seasons, with Reacher leading the way and amassing over 200 million viewers to date. The series now hands that crown to Neagley, which has taken the top spot.

The spinoff is currently sitting atop the rankings, and Amazon MGM has already secured its spot in the lineup.
