A RuneScape animated show is coming, with MoistCr1TiKaL attached as creative partner to Jagex's new TV project.

An animated fantasy landscape inspired by RuneScape's Gielinor, with glowing runes and a young adventurer walking through a misty forest.

RuneScape is finally getting a TV show, and it comes with one of the biggest names in online gaming attached. Jagex announced at RuneFest that the beloved MMO is being adapted for animation, with Lyrical Animation handling production and Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White joining as a creative partner.

The news lands alongside confirmation that RuneScape 4 is now in development at Jagex. Details on the animated series are still thin, but the combination of White’s star power and Lyrical Animation’s track record suggests this is more than a standard tie-in project.

Lyrical Animation’s Track Record

Lyrical Animation is a division of independent film production company Lyrical Media. Its filmography includes Bruiser, The Death of Robin Hood, and Onslaught. The company is also currently working on the Bloodborne animated movie, alongside Death Stranding: Mosquito, an animated film based on the Kojima Productions video game series.

That resume suggests the animation will aim for something more ambitious than straightforward video-game fodder. Lyrical has a history of adapting mature source material, and bringing the world of Gielinor to life in animated form is a natural fit for that approach.

MoistCr1TiKaL’s Role

White is one of the most popular gaming content creators on the planet. In a virtual pre-briefing ahead of RuneFest, a PR representative for Jagex explained that the project is being built with him because he is “a maxed-out player and is a big fan of our games, and it’s going to be a bit of a passion project for everyone involved.”

“Additionally, Jagex unveiled plans to expand RuneScape beyond games, partnering with creator and internet phenomenon, Charlie White aka MoistCr1TiKaL as well as acclaimed LA-based production business Lyrical Media, to bring the world, characters and stories of Gielinor to life in a new exciting animated adaption,” reads a press release.

The extent of White’s involvement has not been confirmed. What is clear is that his presence signals Jagex’s ambition for the project. White is not just a fan; he has a proven track record of crossing over into other media.

White’s Career Beyond Gaming

White is not a stranger to the wider entertainment industry. He was an extra in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, and he has played himself in numerous web shows. He has also voiced characters in various dubbed anime shows and video games.

More recently, he is working with Lyrical Animation on an animated film adaptation of his own graphic novel series, Godslap. That project shows he already has experience navigating the animation pipeline.

What We Know So Far

The announcement is light on specifics. There is no premiere date, no episode count, and no casting news. Jagex has not said whether the show will be a live-action drama, an animated series, or something entirely different.

What is known is the partnership structure. Lyrical Animation is doing the production work, and White is attached as a creative partner. The press release frames the project as part of Jagex’s push to expand RuneScape beyond games, suggesting the company sees the animated series as a natural extension of its IP rather than a one-off stunt.

Why This Matters

RuneScape has been a staple of online gaming for decades. The game’s enduring popularity means the animated series has potential viewers. White’s involvement brings a recognizable face to the project, which should help draw attention from viewers who might not otherwise tune in.

The show also represents a notable move for Jagex. The company has spent years building RuneScape into a cultural touchstone, and an animated series is a logical way to extend that reach into television.

The question now is whether the adaptation can capture the spirit of Gielinor. The source material is rich, but translating it to animation requires careful handling. Lyrical Animation’s past work suggests they have experience with mature adaptations, though the final product remains untested.

For now, fans can take comfort in the fact that the project exists at all. Jagex has finally made the adaptation official.

The wait for more details begins now.
