Turnstile made their debut on Saturday Night Live, performing the first single from their Grammy-winning album Never Enough alongside a two-song medley from the same record. The Baltimore hardcore band opened the show with “Birds,” the track that took home Best Metal Performance at the Grammys in February.

Debut Set

“Birds” is the lead single from Never Enough, the band’s fourth album. It followed 2021’s Glow On. The performance marked the band’s first appearance on the late-night sketch show.

The medley that followed brought together “I Care” and “Dull.” Turnstile wrote all fourteen songs on the album themselves.

Grammy Wins

Never Enough won Best Rock Album at the Grammys. The band became the first act ever nominated simultaneously in the Rock, Alternative and Metal categories at the same ceremony.

A “reimagined” version of Never Enough came out in August.

Brendan Yates on the Title Track

Lead singer Brendan Yates told Rolling Stone last December that the album’s title track had existed in his mind for a long time. He described the song as a statement about the nature of love and ambition.

“It was [about] a lot of different life experiences — about the feeling of love always falling short, or feeling like it’s falling short of having a lasting impact. This feeling of constantly chasing and constantly reaching. That can be a pattern, that, if you’re stuck in it, it’s really hard to escape,” he said.

“We knew right away, when that song found its form, that that was leading the way with what this record needed to be. It spoke to a lot of the last few years of our lives, since the last album.”

Road Ahead

Turnstile’s current run includes a return to Austin for the festival’s second weekend, plus gigs in Arizona, California and Las Vegas. Each show features a different supporting act lineup.

Four European dates are set for next June in Germany, Denmark and Norway.
