Jagex has finally confirmed a date for RuneScape Reignited, the new character type that gives players a clean slate in Gielinor. The game launches on 2 December, and it arrives alongside a major update that includes the Adventure Guide and the next step in Remastering RuneScape.
The announcement comes after Jagex revealed its fourth RuneScape MMO at RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham. That event also brought news of a new animated adaptation made in partnership with YouTuber Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. The company also acknowledged a brief clone of Old School RuneScape that appeared online before being shut down.
What Reignited Actually Is
RuneScape Reignited is a new permanent character type. It comes with a brand-new economy and hiscores, meaning players can start afresh without dragging old gear or bank balances into the new build.
The character exists in the same worlds as existing players. Jagex explains that Reignited characters will be part of everyone’s experience inside Gielinor every day, just as Ironman players live among existing players today.

That line sums up the pitch for both lapsed players and newcomers. The blog post announcing the feature is titled “RuneScape As It Was Always Meant To Be”.
The Free Access Period
New Reignited characters get a generous gift on launch day. For the first 10 days after the update, all Reignited characters will have free access to members’ content.
Jagex frames it as a reason to jump back in, noting that “If you’ve ever felt lost or left behind in RuneScape, or have been unsure of how to come back or where to begin… There genuinely has never been a better time to jump back in or to experience the full adventure from the start – so we’ve made a reason to do just that.”
