LISA Opens Up About Feeling Shy Singing for New Producers in New ‘Always Lalisa’ Trailer

BLACKPINK's LISA admits shyness recording solo album Alter Ego in Always Lalisa trailer, revealing her fear of new producers.

A singer stands awkwardly in a dim studio, looking uncomfortable as she records vocals.

BLACKPINK’s LISA has a confession for fans: she was too shy to sing for new producers when she left the group to go solo.

The singer opens up about the transition in the latest trailer for Always Lalisa, her upcoming documentary. The film follows her departure from BLACKPINK — the K-pop girl group featuring JENNIE, ROSÉ and JISOO — as she records her debut solo album, Alter Ego, stars in the third season of The White Lotus and prepares for her first major solo performance at Coachella.

The Comfort Zone That Broke

LISA says she had only ever worked with one producer during her time in Korea. That changed when she started building her solo career.

“When I was in Korea, I had only worked with one producer for many years,” she says in the trailer. “But, for the first time, I had to find producers and songwriters on my own outside Korea. I was kind of out of my comfort zone.”

The doc, directed by Sue Kim (The Last of the Sea Women), hits IMAX and cinemas for a limited theatrical release on Oct. 12. It then streams exclusively on YouTube Premium later this year.

Meeting Sammy Soso

One of the producers LISA worked with was British songwriter Sammy Soso, known for his work with A*Pop and Tyla. He reveals that when they first teamed up in the studio, LISA wouldn’t even speak directly to him, which he thought was hilarious, and sweet.

Kuk Harrell’s Pep Talk

Another key collaborator was Kuk Harrell, who has worked with Rihanna and Beyoncé. Harrell says LISA admitted she’d never had an outside vocal producer work with her before.

“I said, ‘Well, let’s just jump in and see what we got,'” he recalls telling her. LISA explains that she was shy with both men because she didn’t know them and was embarrassed to show off her skills.

“I think I lacked confidence,” she says.

The Trailer Shows Her Struggle

The 90-second trailer shows LISA questioning her abilities in the studio. We see Harrell giving her a pep talk as she works on singing and lyrics.

The footage captures the moment LISA has to step outside her familiar routine. She has to trust strangers with her voice, something she admits took real effort.

What the Documentary Tracks

The film documents a busy stretch for LISA. Here’s what the trailer confirms:

  1. Recording Alter Ego, her debut solo album
  2. Filming The White Lotus season three
  3. Preparing for her Coachella performance at 2025’s festival

Each project required a different kind of exposure. The album meant working with producers she didn’t know. The TV role meant stepping into a public spotlight.

The Trailer’s Promise

The trailer makes a simple promise: this is not a glossy portrait of a superstar. It’s a look behind the curtain, where the star is still figuring things out.

The footage shows LISA questioning her skills in the studio, with Harrell by her side. The film promises to show the private version of that story — the moments where she doubted herself, the producers who pushed back, and the confidence she had to build from scratch.

The trailer is a reminder that even the biggest artists start somewhere. And sometimes, that somewhere is a quiet studio where she had to learn to trust new collaborators.
