Anthropic is giving startups a free year of Claude Team and $1,000 in credits, and the company is making its goals explicit.
The offer launches today as part of Anthropic’s SF Tech Week event. Qualifying companies get a year of Claude Team, the paid plan for groups, with up to five premium seats, plus $1,000 in API credits for building with Claude. They also get access to Claude Marketplace, where they can build plug-ins for the service, and they can book virtual office hours with Anthropic’s Applied AI team.
What Anthropic Says It Wants
The company frames this as a strategic move, not a marketing stunt. “We created this program because we believe the benefits of AI will reach most people through the companies that build on top of models, rather than through the models alone,” Anthropic said in an announcement. “That makes partnering closely with founders and developers central to our mission.”
In other words, Anthropic wants startups to build things on top of its models. The startup gets a year of premium access and a thousand dollars in credits.
Who Can Apply
The program is open to companies founded in the last five years or that have received funding in the last two years. Interested companies can apply through the Claude for Startups program page.
The Free Year
The centerpiece of the offer is the free year of Claude Team. That includes up to five premium seats, which means a group of collaborators can all work off the same plan without paying extra. The $1,000 in API credits is a smaller but still useful addition, giving startups room to experiment with building on top of Claude without hitting a wall.
Why This Matters
For startups, the deal is straightforward. A year of premium access and a thousand dollars in credits is a real savings. For Anthropic, the value comes from the relationships it builds with these founders and developers.
“That makes partnering closely with founders and developers central to our mission.”
The quote is telling. Anthropic is positioning itself as a partner.
The Catch
The application process lives on the Claude for Startups program page, and the terms are clearly laid out.
The offer is limited to startups that meet the funding criteria. That narrows the pool.
What Comes Next
The program is live now. Companies that fit the criteria should apply through the program page.
The Bottom Line
Anthropic is giving away a year of its premium AI service and $1,000 in credits to startups, and the stated goal is to benefit the companies building on top of its models.
The offer runs for a year of access. The marketplace access gives startups a path to build integrations directly into Anthropic’s platform.
The question is whether the startups see it the same way.
