Apple TV has not said whether Ted Lasso will come back for Season 5, but the stars want you to know they are ready for more. Annette Badland, Tanya Reynolds, and Abbie Hern all spoke with DECIDER ahead of the Season 4 finale, and the conversation was full of hopes for the future — including a desire for a flashback to their Arsenal days and an It’s a Wonderful Life-style return for Mae Greene.
The finale rolled credits with the word “Season Finale” rather than “Series Finale,” which DECIDER reads as a sign of hope. But no official renewal has come from Apple TV yet, and the gap between Season 3 and Season 4 was three years long.
Badland’s Idea For Mae
Badland told DECIDER she would like to return to the series down the line. Her plan mirrors the classic 1946 film: “You never know. There is a film called It’s a Wonderful Life, where an angel keeps popping back. Maybe Mae can pop back up as a sort of conscience,” she said.
It is a specific idea, and it comes from one of the people who played Mae Greene.
Reynolds And Hern’s Arsenal Flashback
When asked about where their character arcs could lead after the finale, Reynolds said, “We have no idea. There’s obviously so much potential, so many possibilities…” She then pressed her case for a trip back in time. “We’d be so interested in a flashback to our Arsenal days,” Reynolds said. “We can get to the bottom of the beef.”
Hern agreed. “I want to see Alice in a kit, though. Just for a minute,” she said. Reynolds added a practical detail: “Yeah, so I could put one shot of Alice kicking the ball. Even if it has to be my head CGI’d onto someone else’s body,” Reynolds concluded.
The Season 4 Wrap
Ted Lasso Season 4 ran 10 episodes, with Episode 410 serving as the finale. The show remains one of Apple TV’s most popular original series.
The gap between Season 3 and Season 4 was three years, and the original three-season run saw Season 1 and Season 2 premiere a little less than a year apart in 2020 and 2021, with Season 2 and Season 3 having around a year-and-eight months-long gap between them.
When Season 5 Might Arrive
Since Ted Lasso has not been renewed, there is no premiere date on the books yet. If renewal, writing, and production happen without major delays, DECIDER hopes new episodes could arrive in fall 2027, if not early to mid 2028. The wait is in Sudeikis’ hands now.
The Stars’ Hopes
The stars want more because they have ideas. Badland has her Mae plan, and Reynolds and Hern have their Arsenal flashback. Both come from people who actually played the characters.
The It’s a Wonderful Life idea is a specific return plan for Mae. Reynolds and Hern’s flashback idea is a stated hope for the future of the show.
The show has been a hit for the streamer, and the finale’s wording suggests the door is open.
