The company has revealed its inaugural foldable iPhone, which the firm calls “the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”. When unfolded, the device shows a 7.6-inch inner display; when closed, it narrows down to a 5.4-inch outer screen.
Cupertino issued a press release announcing the device on September 9. Orders open Friday, October 16, with sales starting Friday, October 23. The phone is offered in two finishes: star white and night sky.
The Two Displays
What makes the iPhone Duo stand apart is its two-display setup. With it shut, the outer Super Retina XDR display measures just 5.4 inches across, giving up roughly 90 percent of the viewing surface of the iPhone 18 Pro while still fitting into a pocket. Once opened, the inner display expands to 7.6 inches, which works out to be 50 percent bigger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The two screens match in shape, so material moves across both without distortion. Each carries ProMotion, Always On, and 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness. A nano-texture surface cuts down on glare and keeps creases from showing up.
This autumn, the iPhone Duo will enable Apple Pencil support through USB-C, letting users jot down notes, create sketches, or annotate documents across both screens.
The A20 Pro Chip
Apple’s new phone is powered by the A20 Pro chip and comes with an advanced thermal management system that features a custom-designed vapor chamber paired with a dual-battery design. The company claims this combination provides both pro-level performance and all-day battery life.
A fresh Siri Camera mode lets Siri see what the user is looking at so it can answer questions and take action. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI join forces by combining AI capabilities with a person’s personal context.
The Hinge Design
More than 100 parts make up the hinge, which handles opening and closing with exact control while holding the middle of the screen. The result is what Apple calls “a smooth, satisfying feel.”.
The frame gains strength from support ribs built inside it, and antenna splits fitted with ceramic fiber inserts work to stiffen the design further.
Durability Features
This phone comes in grade 5 titanium, given a mirror-polished finish, with a 3D-printed hinge cover added to it. The back of the device gets Ceramic Shield protection, while Ceramic Shield 2, placed on the front, delivers 3x improved scratch resistance compared to the prior model. The phone also holds an IP68 certification covering exposure to water, splashes, and dust.
A scratch-resistant coating covers the inner display, along with a nano-textured cover layer fashioned from a custom polymer that boasts up to 40 percent greater stiffness than other industry materials. High-strength glass rests both above and below the folding panel, and custom adhesives permit the layers to slide past one another “like the pages of a book.”.
The Camera System
The phone’s main camera is a 48MP Fusion sensor that can shoot at up to 48MP resolution without any shutter delay. The default setting drops to 24MP for more manageable file sizes, while an integrated optical-quality 2x Telephoto lens remains part of the package.
The 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera is shared with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, which means it offers wider fields of view and macro photography. The Center Stage front camera works to automatically capture photos and videos regardless of how a person moves or rotates their body.
Security and Authentication
The side button carries Touch ID hardware for authentication purposes, regardless of whether the device cover is up or down. There is a secondary method as well: users may unlock the iPhone Duo by means of their Apple Watch.
The new FaceTime camera is placed beneath the inner display, where it remains concealed until needed, thus preserving the screen’s uninterrupted appearance.

The iPhone Duo marks a fundamental shift for the product line, according to John Ternus, who serves as Apple’s CEO.
