A robed figure stands on a fractured balcony as swirling portals and glowing fragments of magic surround him.

Theorist gains near-total omniscience at the end of his story, after Vraska reunites the scattered pieces of Jace in Episode 8 of Magic’s Reality Fracture. The episode, titled “Keep Your Lids Open,” can be read in full from Wizards of the Coast.

Vraska’s Portal Hunt

Garruk brings back a young Jace and guides Chandra and Ajani through a nearby portal, though he realizes too late that Vraska has been left behind. The likeness of the dying Alhammarret directs her toward the rooftop’s edge and commands her to step off. She gazes down and spots another portal beneath her, and seconds later, she plunges through it.

Vraska emerges from the other side into a familiar militant camp, where another piece of Jace is waiting for her — the Soldier. The young man rises to attention when he sees his captain approaching, but Vraska swiftly calms him, and she takes the fragment not long after.

The Guildpact

Vraska gets swept through another portal straight into the company of Jace the Guildpact, who lets out a long breath of relief upon realizing she has arrived instead of The Theorist, who would have brought more specifics of his plan than he wanted. The two hardly exchange words before Jace commits himself fully to her side, gladly giving up his title as he joins forces with her.

The Survivor

The last portal carries Vraska to Ixalan’s sandy shores, where she discovers the final fragment of Jace — the Survivor. In the sand, the two share an impromptu exchange of Vrynian marriage vows, a heartfelt moment between them, before the Survivor merges himself into his bride’s mind along with the other pieces of himself.

Jadzi’s Sacrifice

In this episode, the story turns to The Theorist, who is back in his sanctum trying once more to take Oracle Jadzi’s life. He has arranged everything for the attempt, yet he still cannot carry it out, because he has removed the part of himself that ever allowed such a thing to happen.

In a fit of rage, The Theorist strikes Jadzi’s mind, but finds complete chaos waiting. His resolve wavers and he says “I think this may be beyond my expertise…” to which Jadzi laughs and replies “Oh good! It’s this timeline… before seizing the knife and quickly severing her own throat.

While his thoughts remain bound to hers, The Theorist experiences her suffering for a moment, and before he has time to respond, his mind is hurled through the blind eternities.

Failed Subjugation

Ajani, Garruk, and Chandra arrive at the sanctum just before Jadzi’s death, yet they come too late. By rejoining body and mind, The Theorist has finally acquired the previously unavailable power and knowledge needed to complete his scheme.

Three individuals release their separate fragments of Jace, and these pieces pour into The Theorist’s mind. Each part tries to overcome its own whole, yet the attempt fails, lacking Vraska and the other parts she holds within her.
