DC Studios has confirmed that Green Lantern shares history with Batman in the new DC Universe. The announcement comes as the studio builds out its slate of interconnected films, with Batman set to lead the upcoming The Brave and the Bold.
Batman is DC’s biggest hero in live-action. He has more movies than any other DC character, and they have made more money at the box office. Over the years, his movies have featured a few Bat-Family members, but only one iteration truly got to interact with heroes from beyond Gotham City.
That version was Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne from the old DCEU timeline. Affleck’s Batman appeared in DC’s first Justice League movie, where he shared the screen with Superman, Wonder Woman, and many other heroes. Now DC Studios wants to repeat that dynamic in James Gunn’s DC Universe.
Affleck’s Batman and the Justice League
Affleck’s iteration was the only live-action Batman to appear in the same frame as heroes not from Gotham City. His version of Bruce Wayne was the only one to really interact with heroes from beyond Gotham.
The Justice League film brought together a cast of major characters, and Affleck’s Batman was a central part of that group. The movie established a shared universe where Batman could operate alongside Superman, Wonder Woman, and others.
Gunn’s DC Universe and The Brave and the Bold
The confirmation of Green Lantern’s history with Batman comes as DC Studios builds out its slate of interconnected films. Batman will lead the announced The Brave and the Bold.
The announcement marks a step toward a more connected DC Universe.
Batman’s Long History on Screen

Bill Finger’s Role in Batman’s Creation
Batman debuted in Detective Comics #27 in May 1939. Cartoonist Bob Kane received sole credit for creating the character for the next 76 years, despite only being half of the real creative partnership.
Kane’s uncredited collaborator wrote much of the original story, designed the cowl and cape, invented the name “Bruce Wayne,” named Gotham City, and helped create the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler and Catwoman. DC finally added Finger’s name to all Batman credits in 2015.
The recognition of Finger’s work came through a 2014 documentary and a 2015 family campaign. Warner Bros. and DC added “Batman created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger” to every credit starting with Gotham and Batman v Superman.
The Road to The Brave and the Bold
Batman’s history with Green Lantern is now confirmed. The new DC Universe is taking shape.
The casting of Batman in The Brave and the Bold has yet to start, and the film remains in development.
