Vivo has launched its X500 lineup in China, and the Pro Max is the headline act. The phone uses Sony’s Lytia L910 sensor, the first to use LOFIC technology, which Vivo says pushes dynamic range to 17 stops. That beats the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s claimed 16.5 stops.
The X500 Pro Max also records 4K 240fps slow-motion video thanks to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro chip. The Pro and Pro Max run on that chip; the base X500 uses the 9600M. The 2nm Pro chip adds 10bit Log recording and new cinematic video styles.
The Sensors Behind the Numbers
The Lytia L910 is a 50-megapixel, 1/1.28-inch-type sensor. Vivo calls its dynamic range “true 17 EV ultra-high dynamic range.” The phone also brings back the 200-megapixel, 3.7x telephoto lens from the X300 Ultra, along with support for that phone’s 400mm teleconverter lens.
Dynamic range is how much light a camera can capture at once. More stops mean a phone can show both bright highlights and dark shadows in the same frame without losing detail in either.
LOFIC is Sony’s sensor technology that enables the expanded dynamic range Vivo is touting. The comparison to Xiaomi’s 16.5 stops is a claim from Vivo; no independent verification of the 17-stop figure is reported in the announcement.
Display Sizes and the 4K Slo-Mo Chip
Display sizes range from the compact 6.36-inch Pro to the 6.85-inch Pro Max. The base X500 sits in between. All three phones use OLED displays, and all three pack silicon-carbon batteries between 6,510mAh and 8,000mAh. The software is Vivo’s OriginOS 7.
The 2nm Pro chip handles the 4K 240fps slow-motion recording and the Log video capture.
