Preview season for Magic: The Gathering‘s Reality Fracture set is heating up, and Thursday’s reveals brought a wave of new cards built around a simple premise: every hero has a shadow. The set, which releases on October 2, pits the Multiverse against the Echoverse, a mirror dimension where familiar faces return as twisted or redeemed versions of themselves.
Wizards of the Coast shared the latest batch of previews on Thursday, September 10. The reveals include legendary creatures, planeswalkers, instants, sorceries, and a full cycle of charms. The centerpiece is the dual-faced legends — each major character gets two cards, one for each side of the Echoverse collision.
Danitha, Emrakul, and the Mirror Matchups
Danitha appears in two forms: Danitha, Sword of Hope and Danitha, Spear of Agony. Players choose which version fits their deck’s strategy.
Emrakul, the Exigent Doom also made a return, and this version carries the Echoverse’s destructive theme. The card is a massive threat that demands an immediate answer.
Proft, Consulting Detective and Proft, Sinister Mastermind offer a more cerebral pairing. Both fit into blue-based control or tempo strategies.
The Good, the Bad, and the Echoes
The set’s structure means every major character gets two cards. Winter, Team Player and Winter, Tormented Loner show the same character at different points in his story. Gideon the Oathless and Gideon’s Memorial tell a tragic tale across two cards — the planeswalker who abandoned his oath, and a land that memorializes him.
Lyra, Tolarian Archangel and Lyra, Archangel of Dawn give white players two distinct angels. Edgar, Ancient Bloodlord and Edgar, Moonlit Sovereign offer vampire tribal support in both aggressive and controlling flavors. Fblthp, Knows the Way and Fblthp, Impossibly Lost are exactly what you’d expect: one finds cards, the other gets hopelessly tangled in the Echoverse.
Yuriko, Blade of the Mighty and Yuriko, Hope from the Shadows revisit a fan-favorite ninja commander. Geist of Saint Thalia and Thalia, the Survivor split a single character into a ghostly echo and a living survivor. Kiora of Salt and Sand and Kiora of Fire and Ashes give the merfolk planeswalker two elemental identities. Yargle, Goliath of Otaria and Yargle, Glutton of Urborg complete the list.
New Spells and the Charm Cycle
Beyond the legendary pairs, Thursday’s previews introduced several new cards. Eardrum Rattler and Greenhouse Propagator are both one-mana cards with echo-themed abilities. Whiplash Wordsmith is a red instant. Face Yourself is a blue spell.
Cruel Calculations and Violent Echoes are removal spells. The charms — Konstrari Charm, Stingerquill Charm, Fatehold Charm, Theorix Charm, and Vigorbloom Charm — give players flexibility in draft and constructed alike.
Solarium Sentry, Master of Barbs, and Hallway Heckler are common and uncommon creatures that support the set’s mechanical identity. Null Summoner and Heartwood Crafter fill out the creature base, while Hungering Puppetbeast is a large, evasive threat for limited play.
Way of the Necromancer and Way of the Healer are sorceries. Infinite Coursework is a blue enchantment. Vindictive Triumph was revealed via a Wizards of the Coast email.
Vraska and the Planeswalker Reveals
Vraska, the Cutting Glare and Vraska, Soul of Stone round out the planeswalker reveals. Both versions fit into black-green strategies, but they play very differently.
The set also includes Semester Foreseer and Proctor of Potential.
