An 81-year-old man delivering heavy luggage for a living has become the latest recipient of the internet’s generosity, with a GoFundMe raising more than $250,000 to help him retire.
Don Johnson caught the attention of a stranger named Erin after she spotted him dropping off her lost luggage at her home. The elderly delivery driver climbed her stairs with the heavy bag, prompting Erin to try to help him. She started a ‘Help Don Retire’ page on TikTok and launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has since passed the half-million-dollar mark toward a $300,000 goal.
Erin’s Message
Erin explained why Johnson needed the money. “The reality is that he isn’t working by choice; he is working for survival,” she wrote, launching the GoFundMe. “His beautiful wife of 57 years, Josephine, is currently fighting a severe battle against cancer. The staggering medical bills, continuous treatments, expensive prescription medications, and everyday costs of living have completely overwhelmed them.”
