G Flip’s “Bed On Fire” has reached the top of Australia’s airplay chart, and it got there thanks to a TV sync on a streaming hit. The singer-songwriter’s single has spent three weeks at No. 1 on the national AirPlay Charts, powered by RCS Media Monitors. It is the third homegrown No. 1 of the year, the first for G Flip, and a first for AWAL, the independent label and artist services partner behind the release.
The climb started in May when “Bed On Fire” appeared in Amazon’s hit series Off Campus. That sync pushed the track into the top 40 of the ARIA Singles Chart, where it became one of only two domestic cuts in the top 40 for a time. The exposure sent G Flip onto several Billboard charts, including the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart at No. 2 and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, where it peaked at No. 46.
The Road to the AFL Grand Final
Saturday, Sept. 26, will be the biggest moment yet. G Flip headlines the pre-game entertainment at the AFL’s 2026 Grand Final Day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, where the reigning champion Brisbane Lions face the Fremantle Dockers. The singer joins Michael Paynter and Mike Brady on the lineup, with Kylie Minogue as the headliner.
The single is also certified gold in Australia, with more than 67 million total streams. It peaked at 982,000 plays per day, according to reps for Sony Music Australia’s radio team, which worked alongside AWAL. “Bed On Fire” is now G Flip’s most-streamed song, and it has outpaced their previous biggest radio success, “Disco Cowgirl,” which peaked at No. 23. The new track has been spun across more than 138 stations, making it the artist’s most-broadly-played radio single to date.
A Record-Breaking Year
G Flip has been a busy force in Australian music over the past few years. In early 2024, they set a then-record by landing seven songs in triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown, including the No. 2 ranked track, “The Worst Person in the World.” That broke the mark previously held by rock trio Wolfmother, which scored six entries in a countdown two decades earlier, in 2005.
Since then, Charli xcx and Billie Eilish have raised the bar even higher, with eight entries each. G Flip’s own record still stands as a benchmark for a single artist.
The Sydneysider also had a breakthrough year in 2023. Their album DRUMMER went to No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, released via Future Classic/Universal. It was their first ARIA No. 1 album, and it followed their debut About Us, which peaked at No. 6. The album also won two ARIA Awards.
“Bed On Fire” appears on G Flip’s third studio album, Dream Ride, their first via AWAL Recordings. The album sped to No. 4 on the ARIA Albums Chart last September.
The TV Sync That Started It All
The sync on Off Campus was the spark. When “Bed On Fire” appeared in the Amazon series in May, it went like wildfire. The exposure turned a steadily growing fan base into a national audience.
The ARIA Singles Chart performance was notable because only two other local tracks were in the top 40 at the time. That placed G Flip among the few domestic artists cracking the barrier.
