“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” returns with a new couple, and the show bosses are not shy about why Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser deserves a fresh start. In Season 2, Episode 2, Murtagh’s heart has mended enough to move on from his long pining for Ellen, the woman who fell for Brian — his cousin and best friend.
The announcement comes from a video posted by TVLine, featuring executive producer Maril Davis and showrunner Matthew B. Davis. The bosses say Murtagh’s new crush is Grace, played by Ruby Fubara of “Breeders.” Grace is Jocasta Cameron’s new maid, and she arrives at Castle Leoch as an indentured servant from London.
Murtagh’s Long Road To Grace
Murtagh spent Season 1 pining for Ellen, who ended up with Brian. He then had a drunken dalliance with Ellen’s sister, Jocasta, which ended badly. Now the time-travel drama has moved on to Season 2, and Murtagh’s heart has mostly healed.
“He’ll always love Ellen. He’ll always have a love for her and look out for her, as we see down the line in ‘Outlander,'” Maril Davis says. “But his heart has mended enough to move on.”
The Bosses On Grace
Matthew B. Davis calls Grace “much stronger than she first appears.” He says she might look demure at first, but she blossoms over the season.
“She might, at first blush, look very demure… but over the course of the season, she really blossoms, and you’ll really see the strength come out in her,” he teases.
What The Episode Actually Shows
The episode does not tell us much about Grace beyond that she is from London and is an indentured servant who has recently arrived at Castle Leoch. The bosses’ statements fill in some of the picture, but the episode establishes those details first.

The bosses have described Murtagh’s new crush, and the show has introduced Grace as someone who catches his eye. The season has a long way to go to show what that strength actually looks like.

That is a promise the show has not yet kept.
