Tulsa came into September 2026 with a statement win over Oklahoma State and a 3-0 start for the first time since 2008. That run ended Saturday night in SEC country, where Arkansas turned its frustration into a 34-6 domination of the Golden Hurricane.
Chris Marshall was the difference. The Boise State transfer caught nine passes for 195 yards and a touchdown, sixth-most in Arkansas history. He added 136 yards in the first half alone, including two 40-plus-yard catches.
Marshall Takes Over Early
The game changed on the second series when Marshall snared a 44-yard reception that set up KJ Jackson’s 10-yard rushing touchdown. That score erased a trend for Arkansas: in its two previous outings against FBS competition, the team never scored a touchdown until the final 10 minutes of action.
Jackson praised Marshall afterward.
“He makes playing football really easy,” Jackson said. “My belief is through the moon with Chris. I know that he’s gonna go make a play. I know he’s gonna go work his tail off every single day.”
Tulsa’s Quarterback Problem
Tulsa played without its starting quarterback, Baylor Hayes, for the second straight game. Hayes was dressed and participating in warm-ups, but Dexter Williams II played the entire contest. Williams completed 20 of 32 passes for 176 yards in his eighth career start.

Tulsa’s Late Push Falls Short
Tulsa finally crossed midfield in the early third quarter when Williams found Donnell Gee Jr. on a 4th-and-4 gamble. Damari Alston capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 16-6.
But Tulsa’s inability to convert the two-point conversion meant the game stayed out of reach. The Golden Hurricane never crossed their own 40-yard line in the first half.
The Turnover Battle Turns
Dedaunte Scott intercepted Jackson in the third quarter, giving Tulsa its first trip to Arkansas territory. But Williams fumbled on a scramble, handing the ball back to the Razorbacks.
Arkansas went from minus-3 in the turnover battle to a 2-1 edge against a previously-unbeaten opponent.
After the Game
Silverfield opened up about the pressure of consecutive ranked losses.
“Everybody was saying, ‘Ryan, how do they feel after back to back weeks?'” Silverfield said. “I openly admitted it was the worst loss of my coaching career. But we’re not gonna hold our heads. We’re gonna find ways to fight and get back.”
He credited his team’s resilience.
“To the team’s credit, they didn’t bat an eye. What a group of resilient young men.”
Tulsa’s coach took the loss hard.
“I didn’t think toughness was the problem tonight,” Tre Lamb said. “I didn’t think care or want to — I thought we played hard. I thought all our players played hard. We don’t have issues there. We didn’t have missed assignments. We got beat tonight.”
