The Setup
The Losers are a team of U.S. Special Forces operatives sent to Bolivia to take out a drug lord. They find children inside the compound and refuse the order to fire. Their commander, Max, blows up their helicopter anyway. They fake their deaths and go underground. Four months later, a woman named Aisha offers to help them kill Max. The plan is simple: steal a hard drive with his secrets, trace the money, and bring him down.
The Cast
Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Captain Clay, the leader. Chris Evans is Captain Jake Jensen, the hacker. Zoe Saldaña is Aisha, a native Bolivian who knows the territory. Idris Elba is Roque, the demolitions expert. Columbus Short is Pooch, the heavy weapons specialist. Óscar Jaenada is Cougar, the sniper. Jason Patric rounds out the team as Max, the man the Losers are hunting.
Morgan describes Clay as lighter than his Watchmen role as Comedian. “This guy has a real, actually much better sense of humor than the Comedian did,” he said. “He’s not nihilistic. It’s completely different. This is much lighter.”
Evans calls Jensen a fun character. “He’s just a fun guy, you know? He’s kind of the comic relief,” Evans stated. “He loves life. He’s a little nerdy. He’s not very smooth…”
The Flaws
The Losers drags in the middle. The chase scenes are competent but forgettable. The twist about the “Snukes” — eco-friendly bombs that use sonic waves — feels like a late addition rather than the engine of the plot. The movie spends too long getting to the reveal and then rushes past it.
Comparisons
Critics drew comparisons between The Losers and The A-Team when both films were released. Both are ensemble action films about a team of specialists fighting against their own government. The Losers is smaller in scale and darker in tone, but the structural similarities are visible. Neither film commits fully to its own rules.
The Verdict
The Losers is a flawed but watchable action movie. It has a strong cast, a decent premise, and a few genuinely tense moments. But the pacing sags in the middle, the twist feels tacked on, and the final act rushes to a conclusion that doesn’t quite land.
