Call of Duty: Warzone gets a toggle to hide skins from other games — and it’s about time

A toggle shall be wrought, that skins of strange and foreign games may vanish from thine sight in Warzone.

A soldier gazes upon a field wherein many phantom skins of strange games drift like phantoms.

Call of Duty: Warzone will soon let you hide skins from other Call of Duty games, and it is about time. The free-to-play mode has spent years as a melting pot for yearly releases, and now players can finally filter out the stuff they do not want to see.

The Filter, Explained

Infinity Ward is building a new toggle for Warzone’s first season of Modern Warfare 4. When the filter is on, you will only see Modern Warfare 4 character skins in the lobby and matches. The catch is that the filter only hides the skins for you — other players will still see the full wardrobe.

The filter is exclusive to Warzone at launch. There is no way for players to know how many of their teammates and enemies have the toggle on or off.

Why It Matters

Warzone became a collection of everything Call of Duty has ever produced. Character and weapon skins, weapon builds, blueprints — they all pile in from year to year. The theme mismatch is real. Black Ops 6 and 7 brought collaborations with American Dad, The Boys, Beavis and Butt-Head and many other franchises. Those characters do not fit with Call of Duty’s usual look.

Players asked for a way to clean this up for years. The toggle is the answer, even if it is not the smartest one available.

What the Toggle Does Not Do

The filter is not a smart system that picks which skins fit and which do not. It simply turns off skins from other games entirely. That means some players may still see wacky or out-of-place skins down the line, since there is no automated check.

There is also no toggle for Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer yet. If post-launch skins arrive that players deem inappropriate for the game’s atmosphere, the demand will likely follow.

The Toggle’s Limits

The filter only hides the skins for the player who toggles it on, not everyone in the lobby. Crucially, it does not hide the skin from the player who bought it. That is a key point for those in favour of the filter’s existence — they have relied on it in the past.

The filter also does not stop Infinity Ward and Activision from adding more questionable skins in the future. The toggle is a tool, not a banhammer.

The Verdict

This is a welcome change, even if it is not the end of the cosmetic chaos. The filter gives players control over what they see, which is more than anyone expected.

Here is how the situation breaks down:

  1. The filter is exclusive to Warzone at launch.
  2. It hides skins from other games, not individual players.
  3. Players cannot see which teammates have the toggle on.
  4. There is no smart filter that identifies which skins fit.
  5. Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer does not have a toggle yet.

Modern Warfare 4 launches 23rd October on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2.

The toggle is a small victory for players who have lived through years of mismatched aesthetics. It is also a reminder that the skin parade continues elsewhere in the franchise.
