Posh Makes a Surprise Appearance as Cruz Records a Track

Cruz Beckham posted a photo from a recording studio on Monday, Sept. 28, showing his mum Victoria singing behind the mic while he smiled proudly in the corner. The caption was a nod to her Spice Girls nickname: “Yeah we got posh back in the studio ;).”

The photo captures Victoria reading lyrics off her phone while singing unheard vocals. In reply to the image, she posted four laughing crying emojis, though she did not offer any additional remarks about the recording sessions.

Back in the Studio

Since her 2003 double A-side single “Let Your Head Go/This Groove.”, Victoria has kept away from recording solo music. Instead, she has pursued a career in fashion and largely avoided Spice Girls-related events. Her son’s caption turned the occasion into a joke.

Spice Girl fans who saw the image probably felt a jolt to their hearts. They have been watching for any sign of a reunion, and this year marks the British girl group’s 30th anniversary.

Cruz’s Track Record

Cruz, 21, is the youngest son of Victoria and husband soccer legend David Beckham. His first single, the charity track “If Every Day Was Christmas,” came out in 2016 when he was just 11 years old. He later formed the band Cruz Beckham and the Breakers, whose rock-edged debut single “Optics/Lick the Toad” dropped in October of last year.

Earlier this year, the group toured both Europe and the U.S., followed by the release of their debut eight-song EP, Wear & Tear, in August.

What Victoria Has Said

Speaking to SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen last year, Beckham said that her self-titled Netflix documentary series made her realize that being in the Spice Girls made her feel less self-conscious than she used to. But she was clear about what she wanted: “it’s not ultimately what I want to do anymore.”

Would she consider a residency run at a venue like Las Vegas’ Sphere? “It’s tempting,” she said. “But could I take on a world tour? I can’t. I have a job … I don’t even know if I could even still sing. I mean I was never that great.”

The Reunion History

The band’s attempts to get back together have largely passed Posh by, with one notable exception: she joined the Return of the Spice Girls tour in 2007-2008. Her most recent stage appearance with the group came in 2012, during the London Olympics closing ceremony.

In April 2024, an impromptu run-through of “Stop” and “Mama” took place with Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger Spice at her 50th birthday party in London. The Spice Girls went on the road for a reunion tour in 2019, leaving Beckham behind.

The Photo’s Meaning

It remains unknown what exactly Victoria is contributing vocals to at press time. The photograph taken inside the studio, however, points toward something beyond a simple session between friends. Whether the track ends up on Cruz’s next release or becomes a solo effort of her own, the mere fact that she has returned to the recording space is significant.

The picture shows Cruz with a smile in the corner, and his caption treated the whole thing as a family affair.

There is no grand announcement here. Victoria has not confirmed a new record, a tour or even a track title. The picture simply shows that she can still step back into the studio, and it is a modest move rather than a large one.
