NBC is skipping a new episode of The Traitors: New Blood tonight, October 1, and replacing it with a baseball game instead. Fans will have to wait another week for the next installment of the reality show, which moves to a weekly Thursday night schedule starting October 8.
The network premiered the series in September with two episodes each Thursday night. Now the show shifts to one episode per week at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, followed by Law & Order: SVU at 9 p.m. ET and Law & Order season 26 at 10 p.m. ET. The move puts the reality competition directly before the long-running crime drama.
How The Show Works
The Traitors: New Blood is the network adaptation of the Peacock reality series The Traitors. Unlike the original, which featured celebrity contestants, this version brings in ordinary people from across the country. They are big fans of the show, which has worked for some contestants and backfired for others on a weekly basis.
The format follows the Peacock version closely. A group of Traitors works to sabotage and “murder” the Faithful over the course of each episode, with the Faithful remaining unaware of who could end their journey on the show. All the while, they compete in different tasks on a daily basis, which inform the contestants on who they want to eliminate themselves via vote. Cumming remains the Emmy-winning host and master of ceremonies.
Why There’s No Episode Tonight
The decision to skip an episode is simple: NBC is airing Game 3 of the Major League Baseball Wild Card series between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees tonight. The network is giving viewers a different kind of fight to watch, with players fighting to stay in the series on the baseball field rather than in a Scottish castle alongside Alan Cumming.
That means there will be no new New Blood tonight, and no new costumes from Cumming either. The baseball game runs through October 1, and the show returns to its regular schedule after the Wild Card series ends.
The New Schedule
| Day | Time | Show |
|---|---|---|
| Thursday | 8 p.m. ET | The Traitors: New Blood |
| Thursday | 9 p.m. ET | Law & Order: SVU |
| Thursday | 10 p.m. ET | Law & Order season 26 |
Starting October 8, the show airs one episode every Thursday until the finale on November 19.
What Happens Next
The original series ran for four seasons on Peacock. NBC is hoping the network version can elevate its Thursday lineup, which has lost Law & Order: Organized Crime and Manifest to cancellations. Low ratings for Law & Order have made the show a priority for the network.
The Thursday night slot has traditionally been reserved for scripted shows, but NBC is making a bet on a reality format.
The Finale Runs Long
The finale is a two-hour primetime event. Fans who wanted to watch people fight to stay in the series tonight have a substitute: the baseball field.
One week is all it takes to catch up. The show is already scheduled to run through November 19, with no breaks after October 1.
The baseball game is a one-night detour. The show picks back up where it left off.
