Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson are bringing Colleen Hoover’s Verity to theaters this weekend, and fans who want to watch it at home will have to wait. The erotic thriller opens in the U.S. on Friday, October 2, and Amazon Prime Video has not announced a streaming date yet.
The Premise
Verity is based on Hoover’s 2018 novel. Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a bestselling author who can’t finish her next book in a popular series. Lowen Ashleigh, played by Johnson, is a struggling writer hired as a ghostwriter through Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett.
In the process of writing, Lowen uncovers dark secrets about Verity and Jeremy that call the author’s career into question. The film was directed by Michael Showalter and written by Nick Antosca.
Where to Watch Now
For now, the movie is only available in theaters. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Verity is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
The Netflix Question
Verity is not streaming on Netflix, and it likely will not be soon. The film is an Amazon MGM movie, so it will likely go to streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
Guessing the Prime Date
The streaming release date on Prime Video has not been announced. Amazon MGM titles have been very inconsistent with their streaming release times.
One recent comparison helps narrow the guesswork. Another 2026 Amazon MGM movie, Masters of the Universe, began streaming on Amazon Prime about a month and a half after releasing in theaters. That is about seven weeks.
If Verity follows a similar strategy, you might see it streaming sometime in late November 2026. Other MGM movies took up to two or three months to come to Prime Video, so the actual date could slip into December or even January.
This is all speculation. The streaming releases for Amazon MGM movies that go to theaters have varied widely by title. So you may have a longer wait before you see Verity on streaming.
What Fans Should Know
- Verity opens in theaters on Friday, October 2
- It is currently only available in theaters
- It is an Amazon MGM movie, so Prime Video is the likely streaming home
- A streaming date has not been announced
- The wait could fall somewhere between seven and nine weeks
The speculation draws on multiple comparisons between Verity and other Amazon MGM titles that went to theaters. That is the best guess available right now.
For fans who want to watch right away, the answer is simple: go to the theater. For everyone else, the wait continues while Amazon MGM determines when the movie moves to streaming.
