Andrea has a decision to make in Sunday’s Marshals season premiere, and Kayce’s latest crisis is not making that decision any easier. TVLine has released an exclusive sneak peek showing Andrea torn between leaving the team and staying to help Kayce.
The season picks up “a couple of seconds” after last season’s finale, which ended on multiple cliffhangers. Showrunner Spencer Hudnut told TVLine he got messages from viewers who didn’t appreciate having the rug pulled out so quickly. One of those cliffhangers involved Andrea’s future on the team. She had been lobbying for a gig in Washington, D.C., all season and appeared to say her official goodbyes in the finale. But after visiting Kayce — whose son Tate has been kidnapped by Tom Weaver in an attempt to gain control of East Camp — Andrea doesn’t know what to do.
“I went out to East Camp to see Kayce, and he was acting weird,” Andrea tells Cal in the exclusive clip. “I just can’t shake the feeling that something’s off.”
New Mission: Find Tom Weaver
The rest of the squad figures out that the Weavers were responsible for the attack on Thomas Rainwater in the Season 1 finale. That makes their new mission clear: Find. Tom. Weaver.
The reveal changes the stakes. Last season ended with Andrea seemingly ready to leave, but now Kayce is in trouble and Tate is in trouble. Hudnut says Andrea’s plan changes as the episode unfolds.
“She seemed pretty committed to going back to that new job at the end of last season, and that’s where we’re going to find her at the start of this season,” Hudnut tells TVLine. “She’s sticking to that plan. As the episode unravels, and she realizes that not only is Kayce in trouble but also Tate’s in trouble, that’s going to compel her to stick around a little longer than she wanted.”
Andrea’s Loyalty Test
Andrea will also have to acknowledge “how close she’s grown to this team and how fortunate she is to have teammates like these,” Hudnut adds. “The lengths they go to for Kayce remind her of the lengths they went to for her when she was held captive by the Cleggs. She’ll really have to confront what she has here, and if she’s willing to walk away from that.”
The comparison to the Cleggs is telling. Last season, the team rallied around Andrea when she was held captive. Now they are rallying around Kayce, and Andrea is seeing her own experience reflected in theirs.
The Trailer and the Decision
The sneak peek shows Andrea telling Cal about Kayce’s strange behavior. The feeling she can’t shake suggests something is wrong, and the trailer confirms that the Weavers are the ones behind the trouble.
The premiere airs Sunday on CBS at 8:30/7:30c.
Why This Matters
The premiere sets up a genuine question about Andrea’s loyalty. She has been committed to leaving, but the circumstances keep pulling her back. Kayce’s crisis forces her to confront what she has built with this team.
The Weavers attacking Thomas Rainwater gives the season a clear villain to chase. Finding Tom Weaver becomes the central mission, and Andrea’s personal stake grows with each new complication.
What Fans Should Watch For
The premiere answers the biggest question from last season: what happens to Andrea. The sneak peek suggests she will stay, at least temporarily, but the final answer will come in the full episode.
The episode also introduces the idea that Kayce’s crisis mirrors Andrea’s own captivity. That parallel is likely to shape how Andrea processes her decision throughout the season.
The Road Ahead
The premiere sets the stage for a season of tension between Andrea’s desire to leave and her duty to the team. Kayce’s crisis is the immediate trigger, but the underlying question is deeper: what does Andrea value more, her new job or the family she has built with these Marshals?
The answer will come Sunday on CBS. Until then, the sneak peek offers a taste of what is to come.
“She seemed pretty committed to going back to that new job at the end of last season, and that’s where we’re going to find her at the start of this season.”
