GTA 6 Pushed Back Its Release Date Just Two Days Before Launch Day

GTA 6 has a busy week ahead, from Love Magazine's cover to a Miami Heat takeover night, with new screenshots and merch rolling out.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been a slow burn for fans, with years of scraps instead of steady updates. But the game’s marketing machine is finally revving up, and the past week proved it.

Love Magazine’s New Looks

On Friday, Love Magazine dropped new screenshots of GTA 6 and shared quotes from two of the game’s writers. The issue will put protagonists Jason and Lucia on the cover. Game writer Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern spoke about the characters:

“We wanted both protagonists to be vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes, able to learn from each other.”

Alexa D’Agostino added her own note on character building:

“When you are focusing on writing a fully realised person with their own wants, you’re going to get something perfectly imperfect—with clichés, but also undeniably real.”

A Mural In Brooklyn

Fans in New York City spotted painters putting up a new mural featuring Jason and Lucia in Brooklyn. The mural looks set to finish soon.

A Package From Rockstar

Today, I received a package from Rockstar Games containing GTA 6 goodies and merch. The pink canvas bag stood out. It feels very nice. Stickers were included too.

This box matches the ones sent to some GTA content creators. Rockstar told me it was a thank-you for years of GTA coverage at Kotaku. I have been writing about GTA at this site for a decade now.

The Miami Heat Takeover

Rockstar is teaming up with the Miami Heat for a big takeover night on November 18, right before GTA 6 launches. The stadium will get a new GTA 6-inspired court. Heat players will wear new Vice City uniforms.

The Heat are selling a lot of new GTA 6 merch and shirts, including one inspired by a silly Easter egg found in the OG Vice City.

Game Informer’s Big Cover

Earlier this week, GTA 6 got a big cover story in Game Informer magazine. The story showed new screenshots and spilled details about the game’s scale.

There will be over 150 animal species across GTA 6’s map, plus hurricanes and tropical storms. Legendary creatures will be out there too. A stink ape might be lurking in the swamps of Leonida.

Don’t expect to visit Disney World in GTA 6.

What This Means For Launch

This week shows Rockstar is treating GTA 6 like a cultural event, not just a game launch. The pattern holds:

  1. New screenshots from Love Magazine
  2. A Brooklyn mural spotted by fans
  3. A merch package sent to Kotaku
  4. A Miami Heat takeover night
  5. A Game Informer cover story

Each of those five items shows Rockstar pushing GTA 6 into public view ahead of launch.

Take-Two and Rockstar will push harder as launch nears.
