Lindy Li raised millions of dollars for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, then published a book about what she saw inside the Democratic Party. Now she is a party exile, and she is not ruling out another run for Congress.
Unbroken documents the internal deliberations around Biden’s age, and it cost her nearly everyone she knew. The book severed her relationships, including an eight-year romantic partnership. Li described her world as “realpolitik with Lindy characteristics,” and she said she will no longer half-heartedly support anybody after learning her lesson about Biden and Harris.
Fundraiser to Memoirist
Li raised nearly $515,000 in 2016 and another $168,000 in 2018. She said she hated fundraising but knew she was very good at it. Democratic strategists recruited her, with the executive director showing up at her home to pitch the role. Li described the recruitment as “like Scientology.”
She recalled using candy to solicit votes and pitching late meals and sushi as her platform when she became the only woman class president to hold the office for four consecutive years at Princeton. Her “plan” was to become a senator, but that wasn’t supposed to happen until 2024.
The Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012 accelerated her convictions to enter public life. Her ambition crashed into lifelong convictions about loyalty during the lead-up to the 2024 election.
The CCP Connection
Li’s family fled China to escape persecution from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which killed her great-grandfather. She grew up briefly in Sheffield, England, before joining her parents in New England at age five. Her father worked as a doctor while the family moved from Boston to New Haven to Pennsylvania.
Her loyalty was such that she would go to the ends of the earth for someone kind to her. She communicated with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., during the Biden-Harris campaigns.
In 2024, as a fundraiser, Li saw the party selling donors and voters on Biden serving another four years despite cognitive concerns. That was the moment her loyalty broke.
The Book’s Cost
Li has published a book called Unbroken documenting the party’s internal deliberations around Biden’s age. The book severed virtually all of her relationships from when she was a Democrat. It cost her a personal romantic relationship of eight years.
Li suspects some people left behind understand the price of her decision. She believes Shapiro understands why he needed to throw her to the wolves. She said she would never have done that to him.
Loyalty’s Breaking Point
Li said she “just knew” she was supposed to run for Congress but did not expect to do so at 24 years old. She switched her party affiliation over warning signs about President Biden’s decline in the 2024 election.
The Exile’s Worldview
Li describes her worldview as “realpolitik with Lindy characteristics.” She said she will no longer half-heartedly support anybody after learning her lesson about Biden and Harris.

What Happens Next
Li is not ruling out another run for Congress. She said President Rubio could call her in two years or four years, and there could be an open seat in Pennsylvania. She mused about solidifying her hand on a hundred million dollars, adding that few people could do a better job.

Where the paper stands
The paper backs Lindy Li’s right to publish Unbroken and tell the truth about the Biden-Harris machine, and is against the political elite punishing her for it. A person who raises money for a cause and then writes honestly about its faults should not lose friends, a partner, or a career because of it. The punishment she has endured looks like a pattern of retaliation against those who speak out against the party’s leadership.
The story shows how power gathered in one place — the Biden-Harris machine — can punish dissent from within. Li’s account of being thrown to the wolves suggests an office unwilling to tolerate criticism, and a willingness to sacrifice loyal operatives to protect its reputation. That is concentrated power behaving badly, and the paper opposes it wherever it appears.
When a political figure is punished for speaking honestly about their own side, the question to ask is whether the punishment comes from principle or from fear. In Li’s case, the pattern points toward fear — fear of exposure, fear of accountability, fear of losing control. The paper supports anyone willing to expose the workings of power, even when the consequences are severe.
