Anthropic’s AI platform and Google’ has added Docs and Slides, closing the distance between its productivity offerings.
New features allow for the creation of documents and presentations straight from Claude conversations. They may be exported, edited, and shared with others. Anthropic is bringing together standard chats and Cowork into “one Claude,” with every AI productivity tool accessible from any chat. Artifacts and Claude Design powers will reside within the unified interface.
What Claude Docs and Slides Actually Do
Just as with Google Docs, Claude Docs begin as private documents. They can be shared with other editors who then work on the document alongside you in real time. Anyone you add, including Claude, can leave comments that resemble the ones found on a Google Doc.
According to Anthropic, “Anything you make with Claude Design, Slides, or Docs lives at one shareable link you can open on your phone.”.
The AI platform’s productivity suite is adding these tools in beta form, alongside Claude Design. You can request Claude to alter anything it produces, or you can edit things directly yourself.
Why This Matters Against Gemini
Anthropic’s models are generally seen as more advanced than Google’s. Google’s AI services, by contrast, are natively tied into its suite of productivity tools. Earlier this year, Google expanded Gemini’s role in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides with features like:
- A Gemini chat window in Docs
- Generating and editing entire documents with Gemini
- Creating slides with Gemini
The move from Claude begins to narrow that distance. Now users have fewer reasons to exit a Claude conversation for other applications.
The One Claude Rollout
The “one Claude” update is rolling out first to Pro and Max users on web, desktop, and mobile “over the next few weeks.” Access for Team and Free users is coming later. Anthropic says there’s “nothing to turn on” for the update, and users can also keep using Claude chat normally.
What This Means for Users
The main advantage is that it removes the need to move between apps. Rather than jumping back and forth between a Claude chat and a distinct document editor, you can construct a document or presentation directly within the conversation.
The Beta Label
This stage carries a beta label, which signals it is an early phase. The tools are currently live in beta, with a full rollout set to follow.
How It Compares to Google’s Approach
Google’s approach is native integration. Its AI features live inside the apps people already use. Anthropic’s approach is consolidation: one interface for everything.
The two methods address the same issue: simplifying how people interact with AI on a daily basis. Yet they approach it through opposing paths.
The tools are currently available in beta form, with a full rollout planned for the future.
