Sunday night brings the first NFC East matchup of the regular season, with the Dallas Cowboys traveling to MetLife Stadium for a showdown against the New York Giants. Dak Prescott leads the Cowboys into the contest, while Jaxson Dart is set to guide a Giants team making its debut under new head coach John Harbaugh. The game opens the 2026 NFL season.
The Time and Place
NBC’s Sunday Night Football coverage begins at 7 p.m. ET today, Sunday, September 13, with Football Night in America, which gives viewers an hour of pregame programming ahead of the game’s start at 8:20 p.m. ET.
MetLife Stadium sits in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This is the 2026 season debut of Sunday Night Football, returning for its 21st season on NBC. The Cowboys and Giants have met 14 times as part of NBC’s Sunday Night Football package, and this is the 14th meeting.
Watching Without Cable
Peacock is streaming the game without a cable subscription needed. Viewers can also find it on NBC’s digital platforms using their TV-provider credentials. Coverage starts at 7 p.m. ET before the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.
Two subscription tiers are available through Peacock. A Premium plan comes with ads and costs $12.99 per month, while Premium Plus removes ads and charges $19.99 per month instead. Annual plans are priced at 12 months for the cost of 10. That works out to either $129.99 with ads or $199.99 without ads. Premium Plus can also be accessed via Prime Video, which includes a seven-day free trial not offered when you subscribe directly on Peacock.
The Free-Watch Limitation
Peacock doesn’t provide a typical free trial for viewers. Instead, you must use a TV provider login to watch the game without paying. DIRECTV does run a five-day free trial before charges start, but its Genre Packs allow you to choose your own streaming plans.
Cowboys-Giants wraps up Week 1, and for viewers with existing subscriptions that already bundle Peacock, it’s a straightforward choice.
Last season’s two meetings ended with each team winning once. Dallas claimed the first matchup in Week 2, prevailing 37-40 after overtime. New York then secured the season finale with a 34-17 victory. The slate is now clean for both sides.
This is the start of the John Harbaugh era for the Giants, while Dallas opens its campaign with Prescott directing the offense, backed by CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.
