The men’s personal care brand Dr Squatch has a new issue: just 5,000 individuals can secure its newest limited-edition soap and deodorant, and the firm is making that fact public. The company joined forces with Megan Fox for a line known as Feral Fox, which went live in September 14. Because the supply is so limited, landing one of these products demands good fortune, endurance, and a readiness to sign up for a lottery.
According to Dr Squatch Chief Brand Officer John Ludeke, the scent has been described as “seductive, unexpected, and unlike anything we’ve released before,”. It is quite an ambitious claim for a bar of soap, and the company is counting on limited availability to make the hunt worthwhile.
The Formula of Attraction
The collaboration centers on what Dr Squatch calls Fox’s “Formula of Attraction.” The fragrance is built around wild orchid extract and opens with notes of bergamot, sea salt, and mineral air. It moves through driftwood and wild juniper berry before finishing with sandalwood, musk, and vintage leather.
Inside the limited-edition set you’ll find a Feral Fox Natural Bar Soap alongside a Feral Fox Natural Invisible Glide Deodorant. The soap’s formula relies on coconut oil, shea butter, and kaolin clay. The deodorant skips aluminum entirely and is built from ingredients that are more than 98% natural by origin.
How to Get It
The problem is the quantity involved. Dr Squatch has stated that only 5,000 Feral Fox items are being produced. That makes the total output smaller than what you’d see at a standard concert gathering.
A drawing for US customers opens at Dr Squatch’s website starting September 14, with a shot at buying one of 1,500 soap and deodorant bundles up for grabs. Winners will be told on September 18. A few more bundles are going on sale through Target and Walmart online, plus internationally.
The Chase Is Officially On
Ludeke framed the launch in terms of the hunt. “Feral Fox is seductive, unexpected, and unlike anything we’ve released before. Only 5,000 are available, so the chase is officially on.”
Deliberately, the company is using limited availability as its strategy. In personal care, restricted releases are common, but this particular approach is unusually open about it.
Professor Fox Returns
Dr Squatch has already worked with Fox before. The comedian was featured in the company’s Foundation for Odor Excellence campaign as “Professor Fox”, where she taught people about the science of smelling and feeling better.
“As Professor Fox, Megan didn’t just teach the science of smelling and feeling better, she helped us create the ultimate Formula of Attraction,” Ludeke said.
For those who miss out on Feral Fox, Dr Squatch is also offering “Professor Fox’s Picks,” a collection of existing products curated around Fox’s selections. It is a clever fallback: if you cannot get the limited edition, you can still buy something Fox liked.
What Comes Next
Before the Feral Fox release, Dr Squatch had a busy spell. Just under a month earlier, the company joined forces with Pabst Blue Ribbon on a limited-edition soap.
The personal care brand has kept up its run of odd collaborations with another drink pairing. Dubbed Blue Ribbon Breeze, the $8 bar is made with actual PBR lager and carries a scent that combines piney greens, icy peppermint, and fresh ozone. This release comes after Dr Squatch’s Mango Tango collaboration with Tajin, which took place earlier in August.
Comparing the Recent Collabs
| Collaboration | Price | Key Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Feral Fox | Not stated | Wild orchid, bergamot, sea salt |
| Blue Ribbon Breeze | $8 | Piney greens, peppermint, ozone |
| Mango Tango | Not stated | Mango, Tajin spice |
It is plain to see that Dr Squatch selects brands with distinct identities and then allows the fragrances to carry the message on their own.
Why Scarcity Works
The reason limited-edition items succeed is that they push people into action by making an item scarce. A product that runs out quickly becomes something that people desire more intensely. The Feral Fox collection itself uses the term “feral” to describe how it wants customers to behave when trying to obtain it.
Another layer gets added through the drawing system, which changes how purchases work:
- Customers enter the drawing at Dr Squatch’s website starting September 14.
- Winners are told on September 18.
- A few more bundles go on sale through Target and Walmart online, plus internationally.
That sequence means instead of paying right away, customers have to wait and find out if they win.
A Bold Claim
A brand declaring its soap “designed to drive people feral”, that is a strong claim. It carries weight. The maker is promising the item is so excellent, or so uncommon, that customers will put aside their usual habits and reach for it instead.
The question rests on the item at hand. The final test comes down to a quick check.
The Bottom Line
Dr Squatch is running a tight ship with Feral Fox. Only 5,000 exist, and only a fraction are available through the drawing. The rest sit at Target and Walmart, with international options as well.
The bar of soap features the likeness of a celebrity, while the deodorant eschews aluminum in favor of ingredients that are largely derived from nature.
This is a special edition bar of soap with an ambitious concept attached to it. Whether the idea sends anyone wild is yet to be determined.
