Tuesday night brought Drake’s latest release, which arrives as something other than an album, a music video or a tour. Instead, it is a surreal hourlong film titled “Fear of Missing Out,” or “FOMO.” The project premiered as a livestream on YouTube, complete with new music videos, unreleased tracks and guest appearances from a host of stars.
Five directors — Theo Skudra, Jake Schreier, Zong Li, Glenn Michael and Liam Macrae — share direction duties on a film built from song clips drawn from Drake’s two most recent studio records, “Maid of Honour” and “Habibti.” The result is a jumbled, disconnected piece that Drake himself once called a “not so short film.”
The Guests
A large number of guests appear throughout the film, among them Sexyy Red, Winnie Harlow, Lena the Plug, Don Toliver and Sandi Graham, the mother of Drake. Every one of them receives their own scene, even though the format of those scenes changes from person to person across the hour.
New Tracks
Among the previously released songs, the film includes “WNBA,” “Road Trips” and “Hoe Phase.” But Drake also slipped in a couple of new tracks. One is a highly suspected remix of Ella Langley’s history-making hit “Choosin’ Texas.” Drake’s version slows the song down and drops it into an underwater mood, corralled Don Toliver and features the chorus, “Drinkin’ yak all by myself / She’s from Texas I can tell.”
Toliver and Yeat both got new tracks from Drake during the same period.
The Finale
Drake’s exit comes back around at the end of the film, staged in a scene taken directly from the video for “Hotline Bling.” A stagehand produces a stepladder so he can leave the set. Once “FOMO” first appeared online, the YouTube stream was made private.
Life Advice
Before the film aired, Drake posted on Instagram, offering fans some life advice. “Nobody is coming to save you,” he wrote. “You must use each day to decipher who you love and trust and march forward with them.”
He continued speaking: “I hope this serves as motivation to make that call, take that trip, drop that song, open that shop, see your parents, leave that relationship or stay in it forever, spend the bread, get some more etc.”
A Long Year
An already packed year gets another addition with “FOMO.” In May, Drake surprised listeners with a trio of albums: “Iceman,” “Maid of Honour” and “Habibti.” The three projects combine for a total of 43 songs, with guest appearances from Future, 21 Savage, Sexyy Red, Central Cee, PartyNextDoor, and more.
The three albums were announced right after the fourth installment of the “Iceman” livestream series wrapped up in May. The artist then began previewing “Iceman” in July 2025, posting a livestream “Iceman Episode 1” on YouTube.
The Genre Question
Drake addressed the broader question of whether anyone cares about music videos anymore. “They keep saying our genre is dying,” he said. “Videos don’t matter. Nobody is watching nobody is listening. I still care. As much as I did on the set of Best I Ever Had. So be kind and rewind.”
What Fans Wanted
Fans have long speculated whether “Fear of Missing Out” would be an album, a music video or a tour. This past weekend, Drake dropped a teaser on Instagram and described it as a “not so short film directed and scored by the family.” On Monday, he explained it was “self funded surrealism” and “a story about making the absolute most of it all in one summer.”
Drake’s hour-long project piles infomercial tutorials, tattoo close-ups and new song premieres all into one sprawling, strange mix. It ends with the Hotline Bling finale, which closes the loop on the whole project.
