El Grande Americano left Mexico City with the AAA mega championship after the final bell rang at Triplemania 34, while Dominik Mysterio had entered the show promising to walk away with it.
A brutal match was expected between the two bitter rivals from the start. Midway through Night 2, AAA broadcaster Corey Graves made the announcement that there would be no disqualifications, which allowed chairs, belts and anything else to get into the mix. That call set the tone for a chaotic finish.
Mysterio Starts the Violence
El Grande Americano appeared ready to seize command, but then JD McDonagh entered the picture, serving as Mysterio’s Judgment Day sibling and drawing his attention away at a critical moment. Mysterio had already opened the attack with a chair aimed at ‘s midsection. He followed that with Dorian Roldán’s belt, delivering extra damage to the shot. The pinfall still eluded him, however.
Los Americanos Arrive
El Grande Americano got help from Los Americanos, who stepped in to take out McDonagh. Bravo Americano then made his way to the top of the video board, where he crashed down on Rayo, McDonagh and AAA officials who were trying to break up the fight. Meanwhile, El Grande Americano kept trying to put Mysterio away, though he couldn’t finish the job.
Los Americanos were starting to feel like they had control over the match when Omos appeared to back Mysterio up. Omos, having claimed the Copa Bardahl earlier in the night, attempted to halt El Grande Americano’s forward motion. El Grande Americano managed to evade a shoulder strike from Omos while outside the ring, then struck Mysterio inside the ring with two headbutts.
The Match Turns Into a Free-for-All
El Grande Americano had the crowd behind him in Mexico City, but Mysterio refused to let him win. He summoned every last ounce of strength to get free from the pin attempt. The champion’s effort held back his rival, at least until the moment of truth arrived. When Liv Morgan stepped in to strike her opponent from above, Mysterio seized the chance and delivered the 619, followed by a frog splash. Neither move brought the fall he wanted. Both women were left stunned instead.
The official took a headbutt from El Grande Americano, who had pushed through the chaos. Mysterio then struck back with the Mega Championship to put El Grande Americano down, though his own follow-up attempt failed. El Grande Americano retaliated by striking Mysterio with another headbutt before going for the cover.
The Referee Vanishes
At that point, there was no referee in sight. Rey Mysterio, wearing a neck brace, came charging down to the ring from his role as AAA general manager to count the pin for El Grande Americano. That ending capped a night of pure disorder.
