Frank Ocean’s Lonny Breaux, Pt. 2 Repeats Its Own Tracks — And Sometimes Earns It

A review of Frank Ocean's thirty-track opus, a record that repeats itself in search of a deeper love.

A solitary figure stands amid soft blue and gold light, reflecting upon love and longing.

Frank Ocean’s Lonny Breaux, Pt. 2 runs thirty tracks and 111 minutes, and it wants to prove that a pop record can sit still. The songs repeat themselves across the track list, and Ocean repeats himself too — the title suggests a sequel, but this is less a continuation than a doubling down on the same emotional register. It is a record about love that does not hurry toward it.

Track List Walkthrough

“Bedtime Story” opens the album at 3:39, a slow build that sets the pace for everything that follows. “Thinkin Bout You, Pt. 2” (3:40) and “One Look” (3:47) follow closely behind, both leaning on Ocean’s signature vocal ease over a sparse beat. “If I’m in Love” (2:25) is the shortest statement here, a quick confession that reads more like a sketch than a full song.

“Dying for Your Love” (3:32) picks the tempo back up, and “Wise Man, Pt. 2” (3:51) brings in a heavier production edge. “Ohh in Love” (3:40) and “Quickly” (3:51) arrive together, and “Standing Still” (4:03) closes out the first stretch of new material before the album starts repeating itself.

“She Won’t Say Hello” (3:17) is the shortest track on the second half of the record, and “Lights” (3:31) follows at a similar pace. The album then repeats “Ohh in Love” (3:15), “Quickly” (3:49), and “Standing Still” (3:48), three songs that already appeared earlier, before moving on to “Time Machine” (3:28) and “Simply” (3:49).

“Go Up” (4:14) and “Rewind That” (3:42) mark a shift toward more direct, radio-friendly hooks. “Together” (4:29) and “Sucker for Love, Pt. 2” (3:06) continue that trend, though neither reaches the heights of the songs around it. “Lost Angel” (4:36) and “Holly Baby” (3:39) return to a more atmospheric mode.

“Stay If You Go” (3:02) and “No Love” (2:53) are brief, almost throwaway cuts. “Bricks and Steel” (4:07) and “Miss You So” (4:24) are more substantial, the latter a standout for its emotional weight. “Denim” (4:23) and “Taste” (3:26) drift through without leaving much of an impression, while “Can’t Be the Last Time” (4:14) and “Ready” (4:09) close the album on a note of uncertainty rather than resolution.

The Repeats and What They Cost

The repetition is the record’s defining move, and it works best when the songs are strong enough to justify the second listen. “Quickly” and “Standing Still” gain depth on replay; “Ohh in Love” loses some of its urgency. The repeated tracks are not filler, but they also do not add much new information. They are a statement about patience, and the statement is made twice.

Ranking the Strongest Songs

The strongest tracks, in order:

  1. “Dying for Your Love”
  2. “Miss You So”
  3. “Bricks and Steel”
  4. “Rewind That”
  5. “Lights”

These five songs carry the album’s emotional weight and justify its length. The rest are competent but interchangeable, and the repeats dilute the impact of even the best moments.

Final Word

Lonny Breaux, Pt. 2 is a record about holding back, and it holds back often. The repetition is a deliberate choice, not a mistake, but it asks for a patience the listener does not always get. The strongest songs are great, and the weaker ones are simply fine. Thirty tracks is a lot to ask for a record that moves slowly, and the album does not always make the case for its length.
