Injustice 3 Is Seemingly the Mysterious Unannounced Fighting Game Hosting Playtests in California

A deleted post, two voice actors, and a playtest in Culver City all point to NetherRealm's hidden Injustice 3.

NetherRealm has been hiding something in plain sight, and now the curtain is lifting a little bit. A deleted forum post, a shared city, and two voice actors who couldn’t keep a secret have all pointed to the same conclusion: the studio’s next big project is almost certainly Injustice 3.

The evidence comes from a post on Good Gamer Group, a company that offers testing services for game publishers under non-disclosure agreements. EventHubs spotted it, and it included two descriptors for the mystery game.

One descriptor called it a “triple-A fighting game.” Another called it a “major 2D fighting game.” Neither phrase is exclusive to NetherRealm projects, but the context matters. EventHubs points out that all the fighting games currently known to be in development are either smaller games or 3D fighters.

The post was since deleted, which makes the clues even more interesting. Deleted posts often carry the scent of something the poster wanted to keep quiet.

Why Culver City Matters

The playtest location is Culver City, California. That matters because Warner Bros. Games, NetherRealm’s parent company, is headquartered in the same city.

A studio working on a major project in the same city as its corporate overseer is not unusual, but it is a clue. The coincidence between the playtest location and the headquarters of the parent company is notable, and it adds to the pattern of small clues pointing in the same direction.

The Voice Actors Who Couldn’t Keep Quiet

Two voice actors who worked on the first two Injustice games let slip in 2025 that they are returning to voice their respective characters in Injustice 3. They later walked it back, which is common when actors accidentally confirm the existence of unannounced projects.

The walkback is part of the pattern. Actors slip, studios respond, and the project remains unannounced until it is ready. The fact that both actors slipped and then walked back their comments suggests the studio took swift action to contain the leak.

The Art That Already Appeared

Injustice 3 art popped up on a Warner Bros. Games artist’s online resume back in April. That is another data point in the pile.

The Hiring Trail

NetherRealm has not been shy about confirming it is working on new projects. Studio boss Ed Boon said in May the team is “actively pursuing another Mortal Kombat game” while “definitely doing more as well.”

The studio has also been hiring QA testers and designers at various points this year, according to EvenHubs. These hires suggest the project is in active development, with the studio building out its teams to support a major release.

The Four-Year Pattern

Since the release of Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023, NetherRealm seems to have shifted to a four-year development cycle. Mortal Kombat 1 came out four years after its predecessor, Mortal Kombat 11.

An Injustice 3 in 2027 would fit that pattern. A reveal at The Game Awards in December would also line up with the studio’s reveal-to-release schedule.

What This Means for Players

The evidence points strongly toward Injustice 3, but nothing is confirmed yet. The playtests in Culver City are happening, and the clues are piling up, but the official announcement has not landed.

Players who want to see the full reveal will likely have to wait for the studio to pull the trigger. The clues are there, but the announcement remains the missing piece.

The Clues So Far

The story follows a familiar shape:

  1. A forum post surfaces and gets deleted.
  2. Voice actors slip and walk back their comments.
  3. Art appears on a resume.
  4. The studio confirms it is working on more, without naming the project.
  5. A reveal at The Game Awards becomes the rumored target.

Each step adds weight to the next. The pattern is consistent, and the gaps between steps are getting shorter.

Why This Matters

The combination of the deleted post, the location, the voice actor slips, the art on the resume, and the hiring all point in the same direction. It is a clever accumulation of small clues that together suggest a big secret is already half-out-of-the-bag.

The Bottom Line

The evidence is compelling, but it is not proof. NetherRealm has not confirmed Injustice 3, and the studio has not announced a release date or platform details.

What is clear is that the project is moving forward. The playtests are happening, the art is out, and the studio is hiring. The question remains open: whether the game will be shown to the world soon, or whether the reveal will come later.

A reveal at The Game Awards in December would line up with the studio’s schedule, but that is not a guarantee. The clues are there. The pieces fit. The question is simply one of timing.

The Game Awards in December could be the moment, or it could be a later reveal. Either way, the game is almost certainly real, and the fans are almost certainly right to be excited.
