Lenovo has unveiled a laptop that swaps out noisy fans and heavy heat sinks for small “cooling chips” that vibrate at ultrasonic frequencies to move air through the device. The company calls this the AeroBlade, and it is a concept model designed to show what Frore Systems’ AirJet Mini chip can accomplish in a real laptop.
The Cooling Chips That Replace Fans
The AeroBlade is fitted with four AirJet Mini chips, which are low-power and roughly the size of a fingernail. They are solid-state devices with no moving parts, and they cool themselves actively rather than depending on passive thermal transfer. The chips feature membranes that vibrate at ultrasonic frequencies, generating 2,000 pascals of back pressure that pushes ambient air through tiny internal jets onto a copper base layer at around 124 miles per hour (200 kilometers per hour).
Heat drawn from the CPU and GPU of the device is pushed out through small openings at the back of the hinge. Representatives from Frore said the machine runs at just 21 decibels at its highest output — roughly the sound of leaves rustling — and can take away 7.5 watts of heat. Four components together remove 30W of heat, a figure that matches what conventional laptop fans are capable of, though not every model performs the same.
Why This Matters for Laptop Design
The AeroBlade is much thinner and lighter than comparable laptops. It measures less than 0.39 inches (10 mm) thick — where other similarly sized machines measure 0.51 inches (12 mm) at their thinnest — and weighs just 1.8 pounds (830 g). Laptops this light are rare.
The AirJet Mini cools a laptop with its own jet mechanism instead of relying on passive metal plates or spinning blades. That design choice is what allows the device to shed weight and bulk.
What the AirJet Chip Actually Does
The AirJet Mini chip, which came from Frore Systems engineers, previously powered the ZOTAC ZBOX PI430AJ Pico mini PC in 2023. It is absent from commercially available tablets and laptops. Its dimensions come to 1.63 x 1.06 x 0.1 inches, or 41.5 x 27 x 2.65 mm, and its weight is just 0.02 pounds, equivalent to 9 grams.
The AeroBlade puts out roughly 10 times the back pressure of a standard laptop exhaust, which typically sits between 100 and 200 pascals. That figure works out to 2,000 pascals. The underlying technology dates back a few years, first announced in December 2022, though this marks its first appearance in a fully functional laptop.
The AI Laptop Problem This Solves
Lenovo and Frore see this technology as a means of cooling the next wave of high-end laptops built for on-device AI. The vast majority of notebooks billed as “AI PCs” simply append a neural processing unit (NPU) capable of handling modest AI workloads, such as real-time manipulation of a webcam’s video feed.
Some laptops headed in the future will try to run large language models or AI agents without a trip to the internet. Consider the Nvidia RTX Spark laptops coming next, which will include a new chip built to run AI agents right on the machine. Those models need a great deal of power pushed into professional-grade GPUs, and fans are put in place to keep them cool.
When it comes to noise, fans can be a problem. Machines like the MacBook Air or the Microsoft Surface Pro often rely on passive heat sinks, which are more likely to throttle, meaning the software pulls back performance to lower temperature. The AirJet Mini promises a quieter approach.
How the Technology Compares

Lenovo revealed the AeroBlade as a concept device at the Sept. 3 Lenovo Innovation World ’26 in Berlin. The event was part of IFA 2026, which ran from Sept. 4 to 8. No word has emerged on when production-ready machines with this cooling technology will appear.

The AirJet Mini actually solves a genuine engineering problem, and the comparison to leaf-rustling noise is understated in the most delightful way. The real question is whether it scales up to a full laptop.
The Road to Production
The concept has been shown by Lenovo, and the tech has already been tested in a small PC. A production-ready laptop is the next step, though no timeline has been provided by the companies yet.
The AirJet Mini has been a part of small PCs for a few years, and it is now appearing in a real laptop. The issue is whether buyers will come calling for it.
