A spell from “Practical Magic 2” has now ruled the U.K. and Ireland box office, pushing aside “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, which had held the top spot for six weeks straight. The sequel’s debut weekend brought in £2.7 million ($3.7 million), enough to claim the number-one position by force of magic alone.
The documentary debuted with a first-week haul of $3.5 million, landing it in the runner-up spot for the weekend box office. Disney placed second behind the cinema rollout of “Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger,”. Rounding out the new releases at the top was 20th Century Fox’s thriller “Pressure”, which took third place with $2.7 million.
The New Releases
“Practical Magic 2” opened with a weekend haul of £2.7 million, which is $3.7 million in U.S. dollars. That number gave it the largest opening among the three new releases and enough to knock “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” off its perch after six weeks at the top.
“Oasis: Don’t Look Back in Anger” debuted with $3.5 million. The documentary landed in second place. “Pressure,” distributed by 20th Century Fox, took third place with $2.7 million.
“Fall 2,” the survival sequel from Signature Entertainment, opened in sixth place with $648,421. “Insidious: Out of the Further,” distributed by Sony, followed in seventh position in its fourth week, adding $619,084 to raise its running total to $9.9 million.
“Runner,” starring Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson, bowed in eighth place with $517,727. Paramount landed the ninth spot with the 45th anniversary 4K re-issue of “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which grossed $326,263. Altitude Film Distribution’s “Coyote vs. Acme” rounded out the top 10 in its fourth frame, collecting $188,463 to push its cume to $2.6 million.
The Holdovers
During its ninth week on release, Universal’s “The Odyssey” remained in fourth place, taking in $1.2 million and pushing its total earnings up to $114.3 million.
In its seventh week of play, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” advanced to fifth place, adding $1.1 million to its tally. That brings the film’s running total to $132.7 million, which now places it above “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Avatar,” “No Time to Die”, and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on the all-time U.K. and Ireland box office chart. Only one film sits ahead of it: “Skyfall.”
What Comes Next
The upcoming theatrical frame opens mid-week with Seventh Art Productions’ “Exhibition On Screen: James McNeill Whistler 2026,” followed by Move Over Productions’ documentary “The Route to Cappyness.”
On Friday, two wide releases are opening at more than 300+ locations: a film from “Resident Evil,” distributed by Sony, and Paramount’s “Bad Apples,” which stars Saoirse Ronan.
Releases also include Screenbound Pictures’ music documentary “50 Years of Punk,” Entertainmeny Film Distributors’ “De Gaulle: Part 2 – Liberté,” Aardman’s “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom,” from Studiocanal, Dogwoof’s “The Cycle of Love,” Curzon’s “Queen at Sea,” Other Parties’ “Barrio Triste,” Sonorous Films’ “Premature,” Shane O’Sullivan’s documentary “The Watergate Caper: Richard Nixon and the Death of the American Dream,” from E2 Films, Mubi’s “Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore?” and Anime Ltd’s “Whisper of the Heart.”
Saturday marks the end of the weekend, with Trafalgar Releasing presenting an event cinema broadcast of “Twenty Years of the Met in Cinemas: An Anniversary Celebration”.
