Public Enemy’s Revolverlution is a live record with a mission: to prove that the group’s political fire still burns. It runs 21 tracks across 74 minutes, mostly live cuts from the 1999-2002 period, with a few new recordings mixed in. The goal is simple. It wants to show that the music that made them famous in the late ’80s and early ’90s holds up, even without the studio polish.
Track by Track
“Gotta Give the Peeps What They Need” opens the record, a familiar rallying cry delivered straight. “Revolverlution” follows, setting the tone for the live material ahead.
“Miuzi Weighs a Ton,” a live recording from San Francisco in 1999, is brief and sharp. “Put It Up” and “Can a Woman Make a Man Lose His Mind?” keep the momentum going before the record cuts briefly with “PESA #1,” a fragment that barely registers.
Then comes “Fight the Power,” recorded live in Winterthur, Switzerland in 1992. This is the record’s high point. The song’s familiar structure carries a crowd that sounds fully behind it, and the performance stands out from everything else here.
“By the Time I Get to Arizona (The Moleman Mixx)” and “Post-Concert Arizona Interview (U2 Zoo Tour)” sit back to back, the interview a strange bonus rather than a standout. “Son of a Bush” runs over five minutes and stretches the material thin.
“54321… Boom” and “Welcome to the Terrordome” both come from the same 1992 Winterthur show as “Fight the Power.” Neither matches that track’s force, but they hold the energy of the live set.
“B Side Wins Again (Scattershot remix)” and “Get Your Shit Together” are solid, workmanlike cuts that don’t demand much attention. “PESA #2” is another brief fragment, and “Shut Em Down (The Functionist version)” stretches to over five minutes without earning it.
“Now A’daze,” “Public Enemy No. 1 (Jeronimo Punx Redu),” “The Making of Burn Hollywood Burn,” and “Gotta Give the Peeps What They Need (DJ Johnny Juice – Paris Revolverlutionary mix)” close the record with a mix of live and remixed material. None of these four stand out enough to lift the final stretch.
“What Good Is a Bomb” closes the record at over six minutes, a strong closer that gives the album a sense of purpose before it ends.

The Verdict
Revolverlution is a live record first and foremost, and as such it succeeds best when it leans into the crowd energy. “Fight the Power” proves that the group can still command a room, while the live cuts from Winterthur give the record a center. The studio cuts and fragments, though, feel like filler, and the final stretch drags.
This is a record for fans who want to hear Public Enemy perform live, not a statement of where the group stands now. It’s competent, occasionally thrilling, and far too long.
