Story and Source Material

Season 6 draws from Joe Country and Slough House, the sixth and seventh novels in Mick Herron’s Slough House series. Apple TV’s official summary says the season follows the Slow Horses as Diana Taverner draws them all into an urgent and deadly struggle for life and vengeance.

Joe Country follows Catherine Standish falling back into drinking, Louisa Guy returning to thoughts of a lost love, and a new member of the team, Lech Wicinski, trying to find out who ruined his career. Meanwhile, Diana Taverner’s hold on her post at Regent’s Park grows weak, and she may need help from an old adversary to keep it. Slough House, the second book folded into the season, is set against the fallout of Brexit. The Slow Horses have been dropped from official MI5 records, and members of Jackson Lamb’s team start dying in strange, frequent ways, leaving them to wonder if they are being hunted.

Season 5 centered on Roddy Ho and a companion who used him to help her team carry out terror attacks across London. Many viewers called it the most amusing season yet. Season 6 marks a clear change in mood, with past and present Slow Horses fighting to stay alive as hits are placed on them.

Cast

Olivia Cooke is back as Sidonie “Sid” Baker, a Season 1 original who is returning to the show. Hugo Weaving also comes back as Frank Harkness. The newcomers are Lenny Rush, Harry Lloyd and Kyle Soller, all of whom have appeared on Andor, The Witcher and Am I Being Unreasonable?

Here’s the full cast list for Season 6:

The cast features Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb and Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner, with Jack Lowden playing River Cartwright and Saskia Reeves appearing as Catherine Standish. Rosalind Eleazar takes on Louisa Guy, Christopher Chung appears as Roddy Ho, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards plays Shirley Dander. Tom Brooke rounds out the group, while Olivia Cooke stars as Sidonie “Sid” Baker. Jonathan Pryce plays David Cartwright, Hugo Weaving is Frank Harkness, and Lenny Rush appears as Reece Nesmith. Harry Lloyd shows up as Damien Cantor, Kyle Soller plays Jim, and MyAnna Buring appears as Jane. Ruth Bradley plays Emma Flyte, and Samuel West takes on Peter Judd, with Joanna Scanlan rounding out the ensemble as Moira Tregorian.

With the premiere just weeks away, viewers of Slough House’s disgraced agents will not have to wait long to see how Diana Taverner’s dangerous game unfolds.
