Soy Luna ran for three seasons and 220 episodes on Disney Channel, from March 14, 2016 to August 17, 2018. It is a telenovela about a girl who skates, and it is very good at being exactly that.

Luna Valente Leaves Cancún
Luna Valente lives with her family in Cancún, Mexico. She goes to school, keeps a group of friends, holds a job, and loves to skate. Then her parents take a job offer, and the family moves to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
There she finds a new rink called Jam & Roller. She learns freestyling, makes new friends, and falls in love. That is the whole engine of the show, and it does not need a bigger one.
The premise is thin. The execution is not.
Karol Sevilla Leads a Deep Ensemble
Karol Sevilla plays Luna Valente, and also Sol Benson. Ruggero Pasquarelli is Matteo Balsano. Valentina Zenere is Ámbar Smith. Michael Ronda is Simón Álvarez.
The supporting cast runs deeper than a kids’ musical usually bothers with. Eight actors hold real screen time: Carolina Kopelioff, Malena Ratner, Katja Martínez, Ana Jara Martínez, Chiara Parravicini, Agustín Bernasconi, Gastón Vietto and Jorge López.
Their characters include Nina Simonetti, Delfina Alzamendi, Jazmín Carbajal, Jim Medina, Yamila Sánchez, Gastón Perida, Pedro Arias and Ramiro Ponce.
The show treats its friend group as an ensemble, and that ensemble carries the run.
A Second Original for Disney Channel Latin America
Soy Luna is the second original production of Disney Channel Latin America, after Violetta (2012–2015). It is the third musical telenovela on the channel, following Patito Feo (2007–2011), which paved the way for Disney’s Latin series.
Disney Channel Latin America developed it. Disney Channel Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Disney Channel Russia and Disney Channel Asia produced it. That is a lot of machinery behind a show about a teenager learning to freestyle.
Jorge Edelstein created it. The first episode premiered with over 2.3 million views in Argentina alone.

The Final Season Loses Two Regulars
In May 2017, the series was renewed for a third and final season. Estela Ribeiro, Roberto Carnaghi, Giovanna Reynaud, Pasquale Di Nuzzo, Jandino, Victoria Suárez Battan and Joaquín Berthold joined the main cast in later seasons.
Luz Cipriota, Diego Alcalá, Germán Tripel, Antonella Querzoli and Paula Kohan used to star, but their characters were written off. Bernasconi and Ferro left during the final season. That churn is normal for a telenovela.
What the 220 Episodes Cost
Nobody watches 220 episodes by accident. A telenovela at that length lives or dies on whether the audience wants to see the same people again tomorrow, and Soy Luna earns that want through the rink and the friend group rather than through plot.
The soap and family tags are the real ones, and they carry the weight. The skating is the hook; the friendships are the structure.
Where It Lands
Soy Luna is not ambitious. It is consistent, and consistency across three seasons is harder than ambition. The show understood its own limits and worked inside them.
The audience score on TMDB sits at 8.0 out of 10 across 1,130 votes. That matches what the show earns.
