The Witcher 3 Geralt Skin for Diablo 4 Is Coming — But Only Through Battle.net

A barbarian clad in Geralt's visage shall grace Sanctuary, but only unto those who purchase anew a fifteen-year-old tale.

Blizzard has confirmed that the Geralt-themed Barbarian skin for Diablo 4 will only be available to players who preorder or purchase The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past through Battle.net. The catch: that locks the skin behind the Battle.net store, meaning Steam players who already own The Witcher 3 Remastered will need to rebuy it on Blizzard’s platform to get the skin.

The announcement came during BlizzCon 2026, where CD Projekt’s Expert Community and Social Media Manager Amelia Korzycka and Level Design Lead Miles Tost appeared on the 30 Years of Battle.net panel. The skin is part of a wider collaboration between Blizzard and CD Projekt, with more Witcher-themed content promised for Diablo 4 in 2027.

Battle.net Lockout

The skin is tied to Songs of the Past, which is currently only available to wishlist on Battle.net. Preordering or buying the expansion through Blizzard’s store is the only way to unlock the Geralt look for your Barbarian character.

That decision has drawn sharp criticism from players who already own The Witcher 3 on non-Battle.net platforms. The Remastered version is set to arrive on Steam as a free upgrade on September 29, 2026 for anyone who already owns the base game. Many of those players are likely to stick with Valve’s platform for their Witcher purchases.

One player responded on social media: “Not paying for a second copy of a 15-year-old game that most people who would play it probably already own,” adding “Thx though Blizzard.”

Another commenter noted the quality of the design: “He looks so bad.” That player continued: “I’m glad tho because I had zero desire to preorder a game in the worst launcher ever just to get this. I really hope they sold it separately in the future.”

The Creative Case

Tost explained the creative thinking behind the collaboration during the panel. He said the Barbarian was the natural fit for a Geralt-inspired skin because both characters share a focus on physical prowess and lifelong training.

Gibson’s Comments on Diablo 4 and 5

“We’re all focused on [Diablo 4] seasons and getting to Diablo 5. We feel like we told the Story of Hatred. We had a great conclusion with Lord of Hatred with what we have with Mephisto, and we are moving towards telling the Story of Terror,” Gibson told PC Gamer.

Diablo 4 launched June 2023. Diablo 5 is due out at some point in 2029.

What Comes Next

CD Projekt said more Witcher-themed content is in the works for Diablo 4 in 2027. The company added that “This skin, taking Geralt’s style into the hellscapes of Sanctuary, is the first piece of Witcher-inspired content coming to Diablo 4, and more is in the works, coming to Blizzard’s action-RPG in 2027.”

The partnership extends beyond the skin. CD Projekt announced that Cyberpunk 2077, its expansion Phantom Liberty, and the Ultimate Edition are coming to Battle.net later this year. Overwatch will also get Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Edgerunners 2-themed content in 2027, with the sequel animated series premiering on Netflix on October 20.

The Catch

The core issue is simple: a skin that belongs to one game’s lore is being sold exclusively through another game’s store. Players who bought The Witcher 3 elsewhere now face a choice between paying twice or missing out.

Event Date
The Witcher 3 Remastered free upgrade on Steam September 29, 2026
Songs of the Past wishlist period Now
Songs of the Past release Not yet announced
Diablo 5 release window Some point in 2029
Cyberpunk 2077 on Battle.net Later this year
Overwatch Cyberpunk-themed content 2027
Edgerunners 2 premiere on Netflix October 20

Key Facts

  • Songs of the Past is only available to wishlist on Battle.net
  • The skin requires preordering or purchasing the expansion through Battle.net
  • The Remastered version upgrades to Steam for free on September 29, 2026
  • Diablo 5 is due in 2029
  • Cyberpunk 2077 arrives on Battle.net later this year

The reaction from players is predictable. They are not happy about being asked to pay for a second copy of a game they already own, especially when the skin is the main reason to return to Battle.net at all.

For now, the Geralt skin is a reminder that cross-game crossovers come with real costs.
