Jon’s Account of the Encounter
A customer came in during brunch hours and requested a glass of water with extra lemon and some sugar. Jon, who described his role as a waiter at the restaurant, noted that these were the main ingredients for lemonade, which led him to expect she might eventually want more.
She asked for something specific, and he delivered it without delay. Hardly had he arrived before the visitor said to him, “I think I’m gonna need some more lemon and probably some more sugar.”.
Jon said he asked whether she would like a glass of lemonade instead of bringing more garnishes. The guest declined, saying “I don’t want a lemonade.”.
He said he had offered to give her the lemonade without charge.

A person who left a comment mentioned they were employed at an eating place where adding just one more lemon slice cost 50.
“Worked at a country club where this happened daily! They added a part on the menu that stated ‘Each water serving comes with one (1) lemon slice. An additional slice (1) may be given upon request. Each additional will be $0.50.’ It stopped almost the next day,” they wrote.
